The closing ceremony was held in the evening wherein J.M. Sathyakumari, Former – Principal, SBOA School & Jun- ior College, Anna Nagar was the Chief Guest. She drew a comparison and appreciated “Sri Bala Vidyalaya” that it has its own ground for sports ac- tivities which many schools are deprived. Children need to keep a good health both physi- cal and mental in order to keep themselves abreast with day to day changes and develop- ment. She distributed the prizes and awards to all the winners of different items of games and sports. The func- tion was presided over by M. Balakrishnan, the Founder of the School. Morkhozumbu

Ingredients:5 cups of buttermilk4-5 green chillies, slit1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds2 tsp coriander seeds1 tsp turmeric powder2-3 tablespoons coconut,

shreddedSalt to taste1 tsp mustard seeds1 sprig of curry leavesOil for seasoningWater for diluting the

buttermilk if needed

Method:Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric to

the buttermilk and mix well.Add water if the

buttermilk is too thick.Add salt and heat on a low

flame till the buttermilkreaches room temperature.

Take it from the fire andset aside.

Roast in a little oil, one byone, the coconut, the remainingturmeric, jeera, coriander andgreen chillies.

Blend to a smooth paste.Add this coconut paste to

the warm buttermilk, put itback on the stove and heat forapproximately 4-5 minutes.

Season it with mustardseeds and curry leaves.

Delicious when eaten withhot plain rice.

Cannot be re-heated ondirect fire.

KITCHENSILLYcoriander and some water toget a liquid consistency.

Add salt to taste.Now add the lime/

tamarind juice and heatthrough till it boils.

Add hing and serve hotwith chapatis or white rice.

Majjige Huli

Ingredients:5 cups buttermilk1/2 lb. green beans7-8 green chillies1 cup fresh coconut,

shredded1 tsp mustard seeds1/2 tsp cumin seeds1 sprig curry leaves2 tsp oil for seasoning

Method:Cut the beans into longish

pieces.Boil in a little water till

done.Drain and set aside.Blend together the coconut

and green chillies.Add this paste to the

buttermilk and mix well.Add the beans and salt to

taste.Dilute with some water if

needed.Bring to a boil on a low

flame.Season with mustard,

cumin and curry leaves.Other vegetables like

eggplant,cucumber,cayote etccan also be used for thispreparation.

Pitla

Ingredients:3 tablespoons besan

(bengal gram flour)1/2 tsp hing(asoefetida)1 medium tomato

chopped finely1 tablespoon chopped

coriander leaves1 sprig curry leaves1/2 tsp mustard seeds1 small onion, chopped

finely1 tsp roasted cumin-

coriander powder1 tablespoon lemon juice/

tamarind juice1 tsp red chilli powder1/2 tsp turmeric powderSalt to taste

Method:Fry the besan in a little oil

till it turns light brown.Set aside.Heat some oil and add the

mustard and curry leaves.When they crackle, add the

onions and fry till they turnbrown.

Add the cumin-dhania, redchili and turmeric and fry for aminute.

Now add the besan andkeep frying for 2 minutes.

�Extract the juice fromwood apple leaves. Mix theliquid with cumin powder andapply on the skin. This is abeneficial treatment for hivesor urticaria.

�You can also boil gingerrhizome, chamomile, marsh-mallow roots, peppermint andEchinea in a sauce pan. Drinka cupful this mixture, twotimes a day. This is a good

cure for skin allergy.�Apply a mixture of

soda and Indian plum juice toprickly heat.

�Sugarcane juice is also agood alternative for pricklyheat during the summer sea-son.

G lobal cosmetics giantL'Oreal's Indian subsid-

iary said that it was extendingits corporate social responsi-bility (CSR) initiative of spon-soring women science studentsto the national capital region(NCR).

"We are going to extendour program, which currentlyfocuses on just young women'seducation in science in thestate of Maharashtra, to theNCR region," a senior L'Orealexecutive told the sources fromParis.

According to the official,the company gave scholarshipworth Rs.2.5 lakh to fivewomen students inMaharashtra. The number ofscholarships will now be in-creased to 10, with the addi-tion of five woman studentsfrom the NCR.

"Around 30 girls fromMaharashtra have benefited

from this project which wasstarted seven years ago," theofficial said, adding that thetotal cost of the project wouldbe around Rs.25 lakh per year.

The company, one of thelargest producers and sellers ofcosmetics products in thecountry, also said it was happythat the winner of this year'scompany sponsored fellow-ship is an Indian woman.

Jyoti Panda, 28, who justcompleted her Ph.D in bio-technology from the Interna-tional Centre for Genetic En-gineering and Biotechnology inNew Delhi, is one of the 15recipients of the 'Unesco-L'oreal International Fellow-ship', which grants $40,000 toyoung women researchers.

"She will be doing her re-search at School of Pharmacy,University of Colorado Den-ver, Aurora, in the US," a com-pany statement said.

Union finance ministerPranab Mukherjee, while

presenting the Union Budgetfor 2011-12, has announcedthat specific allocations arebeing earmarked towardsScheduled Castes Sub-Planand Tribal Sub-Plan for thefirst time in the Budget for2011-12.

Referring to the allocationfor primitive tribal groups, theFinance Minister announcedthat it is being increased fromRs.185 crore in 2010-11 toRs.244 crore in 2011-12.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University

(IGNOU) launched a webportal for students and part-ner institutions (PIs). It wouldplay a vital role in providingguidelines, publishing informa-tion and enhancing interaction,an official said.

The portal has been de-signed and developed jointlyby the Advanced Centre forInformatics and InnovativeLearning and the InternationalDivision of the university inthe Electronic and Media Pro-duction Centre, added the of-ficial.

"From distance learning,we have come to distributedlearning. The portal has a listof programmes currently onoffer with all details; supportservices for registration andevaluation; a query manage-ment system and a space forinteraction in the form of com-munity blogs and discussionforums," the official said.

In a new venture, the Institute of Bioinformatics and

Applied Biotechnology(IBAB) announced it was col-laborating with the IndiraGandhi National Open Uni-versity (IGNOU) for a sciencediscipline course.

The programme, mastersin bioinformatics and biotech-nology, will be a regular coursethe IBAB campus in Banga-lore and students withbachelor's degree in any branchof science or technology willbe eligible to pursue it, accord-ing to an IBAB official.
