Preferred Partner Solutions

... Emerson considers Pepperl+Fuchs a "preferred

partner" for Foundation Fieldbus projects.

Emerson prefers to use technologies from P+F,

whether internal to Emerson products or as

integrated stand-alone P+F products.

General Purpose

NI and IS protection is done in the field

-Segment Protectors

-FieldBarrier

-Distributed architecture

Reliable Fieldbus Power:

-2 powered FF segments

-Simplex or redundant

-Ext. Advanced P.L. Diagnostics optional

-Robust communication

High Power Trunk:

-Up to 30V/400 mA

-Longer cable runs

-Max. number of instruments

per segment - even for IS

High Power Trunk (HPT) vs FISCO

HPT enables utilization of same DCS and FF segment architecture for both general purpose and I.S. applications

Over 25,000 FieldBarriers installed in the field

HPT eliminates the short-comings of FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe COncept)

– High system installation cost

– Reduced FF cable length (1000m max)

– Potentially increased number of DCS H1 interfaces

– Large cabinet space requirements for DCS H1 interfaces, wiring, and FF FISCO power

– Limited power => reduced number of field devices on a segment

HPT supports FF segment power conditioner redundancy, providing load sharing and not requiring “switch-over”

Smaller size in the control room:

– ½ the footprint of a simplex FISCO

– ¼ the footprint of redundant FISCO

Business Results Achieved

Fieldbus Trunk to Spur Coupling

Reduces project risk during start up and operation

Increases plant uptime

Reduces installation cost when used together with High Power Trunk in hazardous locations

Page 18: Pepperl+Fuchs 2011 Emerson Global Users Exchange fieldbus presentation

Summary

Trunk to spur coupling solutions like segment

protectors and FieldBarriers are critical to assure a

reliable, error free fieldbus installation

They protect the entire network from a single short

In combination with a High Power Trunk approach,

they can bring the same benefits from using FF in

safe areas to hazardous locations
