Welcome! Thank you for checking out our groups offered this fall. Peoria Nazarene Groups exist to unite people to God’s love and God’s family through connection, growth, and service. This catalog is designed to help you discover ways you can get connected at Peoria Nazarene Church. Our groups meet at various times and places. We have three different categories of groups including:

Connect Groups These groups come together around an activity or meal. Their focus is less on study or curriculum and more on connecting with each other in fellowship. These are easy opportunities to connect and get to know others at Peoria Nazarene.

Grow Groups Grow groups gather together and study a specific curriculum. It could be a book of the Bible, a faith topic, or discussion revolving around that week’s sermon. Some groups are more focused on intensive study while others focus more on lighter discussion.

Serve Groups These are our ministry teams. These groups focus more on serving than being served and include opportunities in the local church as well as service opportunities in the community.

Each of these groups are important and help us grow at different points of our journey. Many of our groups are meeting for 8 – 10 weeks during the Fall. Some are ongoing. If you have any questions, contact Pastor Matt by phone at 309-692-3131 or by e-mail: [email protected].

conflict or anger. Someone may take from us a job, a career, a good name. We may watch hopes flicker through growing infirmity, or dreams vanish through betrayal of someone we trusted. A family member may walk out in anger and we wonder if we must have failed. Sometimes we try to cover our pain instead of working through it. We can find peace and freedom by working through our disappointments, hurts, misunderstandings, fears, unforgiveness, shame, and guilt.

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Contact: Pastor MarkWhen: Wednesdays @ 6:30pmWhere: At the church

In this revised bestselling book, Peter Scazzero outlines a roadmap for discipleship with Jesus that is powerfully transformative. Surprised by HopeContact: Pastor MattWhen: Sundays @ 9:15amWhere: At the church

In Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church, top-selling author and Anglican bishop, N.T. Can’t find a group to join? Start one! Introducing Peoria Nazarene 242 Groups

242 Groups are home based groups designed to reflect the core behaviors of the early church found in Acts 2:42: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (ESV).

Too often we live disconnected lives, but the truth is, we need each other. In Acts 2:42 as people connected with the Word of God and the people of God the result was that lives were changed and God was glorified. That is what we are to be about.

The DNA of 242 Groups will be found in these core practices:

1. Study of God’s Word (The Apostles’ Teaching)2. Shared Life (Fellowship)3. Sharing in meals and the Lord’s Supper (The Breaking of Bread)4. Worship and Prayer for each other (The Prayers)

The purpose of 242 Groups is to give people a welcoming and comfortable place to connect with other believers and dig deeper into the Word of God. We are called to walk alongside each other to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus. • They are focused, intentional groups designed for life on life discipleship, living

out the mission together, and fellowship, with a mix of mature and new believers as well as those who may not have yet come to faith.

• They are designed to be longer term groups than the semester based structure, but with the freedom to start new groups as necessary.

242 Groups are sermon-based Bible studies. We want to move the sermon from information to transformation. So often we may walk out of church thinking, “Nice sermon, but what difference should it make in my life?” Within the 242 Groups we will work together to answer that important question “What is God calling me to ______?” It is also a great way to care and pray for one another.

If you are interested in being a part of a group or the possibility of starting one, call Pastor Matt: 309-635-4332(cell); 309-692-3131(office) or email him: [email protected]

If you’re interested in starting a group, here’s what we’ll do:1. Pastor Matt will follow up with you 2. Provide a simple guide for starting a 242 group3. Provide a discussion guide for the message each week or other resources4. Encourage and support you along the way

This is what we know—we need encouragement and support throughout the week as followers of Jesus. The practices of gathering together to dig deep into His Word, to pray for each other, and to fellowship is a great way to grow and keep connected throughout the week! One last thing—your friends don’t even have to attend Peoria Nazarene! They can listen to or watch the message online and still be a part of the discussion and your group (sermons are typically available by Monday afternoon). It’s a great way to connect people to God’s love and God’s family!
