Slavery

• During the 19th century, all empires owned slaves

• Slaves were most commonly from Greece, Rome and Africa

• Different roles included:– Tutoring– Administration– Agriculture– labor

Slavery

• People against slavery didn’t usually manage to avoid it

• It was a major part of the economy

• Slavery ended in Europe during the first years of the 19th century

James Cook

• Captain who went to the Pacific to gather information and discover new lands

• His voyages lasted from 1768-1779

• Gathered data, calculations, and specimens of plants and minerals

• Spent time in what is today Hawaii, Omai was one of his guides
