Message from the President

In the spirit of transparency, I hope to communicate with our members as

frequently as necessary but at least monthly to report on the happenings at Board

Meetings.

Our first Board meeting of the new term was held on June 10th. We had a strong

turnout for the meeting with a number of new Board members in attendance.

There were two Board votes at the meeting. After lengthy discussion the Board

voted to continue the policy instituted by the Board just 90 days ago regarding

sponsorships of Kiddush and Seudot Shelishi. The Board policy will continue to be

that sponsorships of Kiddush and Seudot Shelishi are not finalized unless the

payment for the sponsorship is made at least 5 days before the sponsorship date.

There was also considerable discussion about dues for the 2014/2015 Shul year.

The Board agreed to leave dues unchanged but to authorize a reasonable

assessment of $270.00 per family member and $135.00 per single and associate

memberships. As presented in Shul in the Main Sanctuary on Shabbat morning last

week, this is to offset the $75,000 in unprecedented snow removal and heating

costs above the norm due to the record cold and snowfall during the winter

especially during January-March 2014. We thank everyone for their understanding

and support. Look for committee info in this corner next week.

Shabbat shalom,

Bill Jungreis Bring Back Our Boys - Action Alert Regarding the three kidnapped yeshiva students, US senators and representatives have begun to speak out, urging action by the US in this matter. You can make a difference by contacting our NJ senators (see below) to urge them to also speak out. We suggest that they advocate that President Obama take three actions: 1. pressure the Palestinian Authority (PA) to facilitate the release of the boys; 2. support the IDF and Israeli security services in acting aggressively to locate the boys and to damage the ability of Palestinian terrorists to perpetuate similar acts in the future; and, 3. suspend aid to the PA until it ceases to support terrorism.

Volunteers Needed! Hopefully you have noticed the beautiful new landscaping on our property, much of

which was required by Cherry Hill Township in conjunction with the construction of

Mikvah Ohel Leah.

We are looking for volunteers to help water the new trees and shrubs so we can

continue to maintain and enjoy our property.

Watering systems are being installed to help make the job easier.

Please contact Shari Goldberg if you are available to help. Thank you!

Tora-Lationships

People You Don’t Get Along With - Parshat Korach

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

While we aim to enjoy harmonious relationships with everyone in our lives,

sometimes we find it difficult to get along with another. Whether it is a brother in

law, a colleague at work or even a neighbor, sometimes it just does not click.

There are times we think we know what it is that irks us about him/her, and times

we do not. Sometimes we have nothing against the other, but he/she has pent up

negative feelings against us. What’s to do?

Parhsat Korach is the biblical prototype of the internal rebellion. Korach is bright,

wealthy, engaging and holy; that is why so many people believe in him and follow

him. Korach’s tragic flaw is his hubris / arrogance that propels him to believe that

he himself should be the High Priest and not Aharon. Eventually Korach, like most

rebels gets swallowed up in the ground. His ambitious arrogance was met with a

divine humbling. The Torah actually advances a commandment, Thou Shalt not be

like Korach.

Korach was so unruly, that he writes himself out of the script of the Jewish People.

There is another select couple of men that also take aim at Moshe Rabbeinu –

namely Datan and Aviram. These two have been causing trouble since Egypt. They

slandered Moshe in Egypt, breached the Manna Laws trying to take more than their

share and now they joined forces with Korach. How does Moshe react?

Despite their insulting and deriding Moshe, he still patiently reaches out to them in

friendship with the hope of restoring their connection to Bnei Yisrael proper.

Unfortunately Datan and Aviram maintain their distance from Moshe and eventually

fall into the earth with Korach. It is a shame that Datan and Aviram are never able

to transcend their own inner conflicts and rejoin Moshe and Klal YIsrael.

Moshe’s interactions with Datan and Aviram are instructive. Moshe does not take

their negativity personally. Moshe is prepared to be forgiving. Moshe does not

retaliate against them; Moshe is a defensive driver who aims never to hurt

another.

We may not be able to get along perfectly with everyone at all times, but like

Moshe we should never give up trying and always Drive Defensively.

Shabbat Shalom

Rabbi Ephraim Epstein
