Seashore, miles of white-sand

beach stretching east and west

of Pensacola Beach, our visitors

will always have the chance to

experience Florida as it used to

be – untouched and pristine.

The federally protected beaches

of Gulf Islands National Seashore

The beach’s white sand is made from quartz, the bones

of the Appalachian Mountains that washed down the

area’s rivers to the sea over millions of years. Soft and

powdery, the sand is very fine-grained and called

“singing sand” because it squeaks underfoot.

Find your way to the lost islandA bit quieter and a little less populated, one of Perdido Key’s primary attractions liesin its “off-the-beaten-path” tranquility. If it’s events you’re looking for, trust us when we say ours are not quite like anywhereelse. The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in November bringssinger-songwriters from across the country to perform. The Polar Bear Dip is a charge into the Gulf ’s frigid waters inmid-winter (some folks wear costumes) and Thunder on the Gulf each Augustpresents power boat races with more than 40 vessels racing at speeds approaching170 mph. The Martini Festival, the day after Thanksgiving, adds more flair andflavor to the island.
