The Walk-A-Thon was an outstanding success with all students thoroughly enjoying themselves. A great event organised by Mrs Reid and Mrs Kulatunga from the P&C, who were well supported by other parents and staff from our supportive and caring community. The afternoon/early evening saw all classrooms open for parents to see for themselves the wonderful work taking place in the classrooms. These learning opportunities are possible due to the community as a whole. We have supportive parents, interested and engaged learners and caring staff who put countless hours in to their preparation for the learning that takes place in their classroom. Thank you to the many parents who took time to visit the Library and donate a book. This greatly assists the students in having up-to-date and interesting literature to read. Thank you to every single person involved for such a great day. Athletics Carnival Athletics Carnival Last week finally saw some great weather to hold the Track and Field Events for the school’s Athletics Carnival. A huge congratulations to Mrs Castro Gonzalez (nee O’Toole) who organsied such a wonderful set of events. The most pleasing aspect of the carnival was the tremendous support and encouragement provided by the students towards their peers and fellow competitors. It was absolutely amazing to see competitors supporting each other’s’ endeavours and congratulating the winners despite missing out themselves. AMAZING! Thank you to the P&C for their commitment to all school activities. The Canteen ran on the day and was very popular with the students. Thank you to our Canteen Manager, Heather, and the Canteen Committee for all their efforts. Thanks must also go to Mr Passe de Silva, Mr Wilkins and Mr Whalan for cooking the BBQ for lunch. Their time is certainly appreciated. Congratulations to those students who competed and did their best. This is what the day is all about. Next week is the Zone Athletics Carnival where students in most events will represent our school at the Beecroft Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival. Good luck to all those competitors. Student Achievement Student Achievement Last week Lily (Yr 5) competed in the School Sports Australia National Games for Diving. These national titles were held in Melbourne. A very humble Lily came 5 th in the competition. What an amazing achievement! To reach the Nationals Lily had to compete against students at a Regional and State level in order to qualify. What a star! P&C & Cyber Safety P&C & Cyber Safety Tonight Constable Lucca from Ryde Local Area Command will be talking to parents about Cyber Safety. This talk will begin at 7pm, with the P&C meeting beginning straight after. Everyone is welcome to attend tonight. We will be meeting in the hall on the K-2 site. Constable Lucca’s talk is a great way to gain information to support your children to be safe when using technology. This willhelp forge our future paths in the areas of space operations,space science, Earth observations, positioning systems andcommunications. Arts Alive Choral FestivalArts Alive Choral Festival
Last night was the first performance of the Arts Alive Choralfestival in the Town Hall. Seven of our very talented studentsparticipated as part of the Arts Alive Combined Schools Choir.They sang as part of the massed choir and sang in a specialitem on their own. Well done to Alannah G, Freya C, ZachM, Chloe K, Maya K, Emma Y and Sophie M. A hugecongratulations to Alannah who sang a solo in “Shooting Star”.Well done to all of our students. These students will performagain on Wednesday night and our school choir will be part ofthe massed choir singing in the Opera House.

On our continuous journey for school improvement, our staffare involved in weekly Professional Learning sessions that alignwith our school plan and priorities. Next week we will welcomeEddieEddie Woo,Woo, thethe founderfounder ofof WootubeWootube and recipient of Australia’slocal hero award who will be presenting an extendedprofessional learning twilight session to all staff. We are excitedto have such a well-known and respected educator share hispassion for mathematics with us.
This Wednesday 7 August from 2:10pm we will be holdingour Athletics Carnival and Field Events Ribbons Assembly. Thisassembly will acknowledge all of the hard work, talent anddedication of some of our sporting superstars. Families arewelcome and encouraged to attend.
Year 6 will be holding a disco in our Hall for all students K-6on Thursday 22 August. The K-2 disco will begin at 5pm andthe 3-6 disco will start at 6:45pm. Permission notes will gohome today. The theme for the disco this year is Beach Party/Hawaiian. We'll have a great time!

“The Great Book Swap”
To celebrate this year’s Book Week theme“Reading is my secret power”, our school issupporting the work of the IndigenousLiteracy Foundation (ILF) by holding a“Great Book Swap” during Book Week onTuesday 20 August.
The Great Book Swap is indeed a fantastic way to celebratereading and raise much needed funds for remote Indigenouscommunities. This year the ILF aims to gift another 35,000 new,high quality books to over 280 remote communities. As theauthor, Andy Griffiths, who is also a lifetime ambassador for theILF states:

Uniforms can be ordered by attending the Uniform Shop duringopening hours, or alternatively an order form can be completedand together with payment of cash, cheque or card detailshanded in at either office. Orders will be filled and then deliveredto the children’s classes. A combined pricelist and order formcan be downloaded from the school website by following thelinks to Our School and What We Offer. Uniforms can also beordered online through Flexischools, however prices will includethe Flexischools’ surcharge.
