Meet Your Speakers

Ross PiferProfessor Ross Pifer’s research focuses on shale gas development and the interface between agricultural and residential development. He has been an attorney with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of General Counsel, and he has advised military personnel and commands in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Great Britain, and Germany while on active duty with the U.S. Army JAG Corps at the Netherlands Law Center.

He has presented widely throughout Pennsylvania, as well as nationally and internationally, on shale gas and agricultural law topics to audiences comprised of judges, attorneys, legislators, government officials, landowners, and the general public.

Dr. Wes JamisonDr. Wes Jamison is an associate professor of communication at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he teaches public relations, persuasion, political communication, and communica-tion theory. Prior to moving to Florida, Wes served for over a decade as professor of political and social science at universi-ties in the U.S. and Europe, where he taught agriculture politics, agricultural history, and American national government.

With a Ph.D. from Oregon State University studying interest group activism, and post-doctoral research at the University of Florida researching theories of public relations as they relate to activist communications and urban-rural conflict, Dr. Jamison’s expertise combines public relations, political science, and political communication.

Dr. Ferdinand WirthDr. Ferdinand Wirth joined St. Joseph’s University Department of Food Marketing as an Associate Professor in 2008 after spending ten years as a University of Florida faculty member. He has more than 20 years of marketing employment experience in industry and government, including service as Administrator of Agricultural Marketing and Development for the Delaware Department of Agriculture.

He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Louisiana State University, with Ph.D. minors in both Marketing and Economics. His research program, focusing primarily on fruit and seafood marketing, has generated more than $1 million in grants and external funding and 24 referred journal articles.

Rob BoulwareRob Boulware is a public affairs veteran with nearly 30 years of experience, including 12 years in the oil and gas sector. Boulware directs Seneca Resources’ communications and government relations activities – focusing on state and local policy issues, community outreach, media strategy and crisis communications.

Boulware has worked previously with the Marcellus Shale Coalition, where he served as program director in 2011. He was the manager of issues and crisis communications for the global shipper FedEx, and prior to that managed the communi-cations and community relations functions for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Maryland. Additionally, Boulware worked in the media relations departments of the NFL’s San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Meet Your Evening EntertainerWe welcome Damian Mason back to the PennAg Spring Banquet! Damian is a professional speaker, entertainer, writer, businessman and farm owner. Long before Damian enjoyed professional success in business or on the speaking circuit, he was a farm boy. Damian has a degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. He has also studied comedy writing and improvisation at The Second City in Chicago.

Each year, the PennAg Scholarship fund provides scholarships to students who are employed by or have a parent employed by a member of PennAg. Awards must be used in the pursuit of post-secondary education at an accredited institution.
