Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller
(* 15.Jänner 1793 in Wien; † 23.August 1865 in Hinterbrühl bei Mödling) Waldmüller gilt als der bedeutendste österreichische Maler des
19. Jahrhunderts. In seinem Schaffen war er sowohl in der Landschaftsmalerei
als auch im Porträt und der Genremalerei gleichermaßen erfolgreich.
Er war einer der großen Repräsentanten der Wirklichkeitsschilderung. Die Darstellung des Lichts wurde zum Zentralproblem seines umfangreichen Schaffens, das an die 1200 Gemälde umfasst. Bilder Waldmüllers befinden sich auch außerhalb Österreichs in zahlreichen internationalen Galerien.
Seine Bilder sind bis heute außerordentlich populär, wobei Waldmüller oftmals als Darsteller von Biedermeier-Idyllen missverstanden wird.
Waldmüller counts as the most significant Austrian painter of the 19-th century. In his creating he was equally successful in the landscape painting as well as in the portrait and the genre painting. He was one of the big representatives of the reality portrayal. The representation of the light became the central problem of his extensive creating which encloses to 1200 paintings.
Pictures of Waldmüller are also beyond Austria in numerous international galleries. His pictures are exceptionally popular till this day and forest miller is often misunderstood as an actor by Biedermeier period idyls.
