As the premier project located in the Shenzhen Science and Technology Park, the client required a landmark building design. To achieve this aim a number of high-tech, ecological and sustainable solutions need to be fully integrated into the building. An evergreen central courtyard ensures protection from the hot climate by providing a cool and shaded place containing bamboo forests, streams and stone benches.
Hanging gardens are constructed at every second level and create informal meeting spaces; these gardens also assist with cross ventilation. Roof top landscaping, low transmission glazing, combined with horizontal sun shading to the east and west facades, further improve cooling and cement the environmentally driven design.

The other is that each zone is designed with different characteristics so that companies setting up in the Oasis can select an area that best suits their corporate image.

yefenG wealth plazahanGzhou, china
The brief called for a sympathetic design with a unique floor area of 4000 m2 with a height limit of 100 metres. A layout that combined one lower structure and one tower created an effective way to reduce the large scale volumes whilst still meeting the brief. Two sets of elevators create greater flexibility allowing for the separation or combination of spaces within the two buildings, thus allowing for a variety of differing tenancy sizes.
A three-storey high “hanging garden” is embedded every four floors that capture the park views. With the substantial landscaping, these gardens also play a role of regulating the micro-climate and improving air quality as well as providing the users of the neighbouring floors a place for discussion and relaxation. Meanwhile, the garden also introduces natural light into the interior space of the floors adjacent to it. The use of aluminium panelling, steel and glass creates a straight and elegant profile to the building that is respectful of the immediate environment.

The idea behind the Greenland development was to tap into memories from the 1930’s, a period when Shanghai was at its most prosperous. Hidden behind old lanes the new streets symbolise the progress over time and the layout of courtyards and foyers emphasise the sense of familiarity and belonging. The Flower Town is a project in the Greenland development, which combines a broad range of shops and stores, such as coffee shops, pubs and tailors, laid out in such a way as to sustain the estate resident’s daily life whilst maintaining its historical references. Rather than being just the interlinking device, the commercial street is acting as the catalyst for the community to live and interact together.

The Siri Fort venue was designed to sit within and be linked to landscaped parkland and only reveal itself as one travels from Siri Fort Road towards the venue. The romance of the recently excavated embattlements of the fort, built by Sultan Alaud-Din Khilji in the early 1300s, are acknowledged in the curved forms used to envelop the corners of the new venue. These walls are clad with stone similar to the stone used in the ancient Siri Fort walls.
The building is broken into three defined zones, a Badminton Hall, Squash Show Court and Squash Practice Courts. The intent is that each zone can function as standalone spaces. The show court and hall have one point of entry thus allowing control from a central area. All zones are linked by a gallery space.

The practice courts have a stainless steel screen both for security and to act as a breezeway. The breezeway forms part of the colonnaded volume abutting the practice courts. The stainless steel screen unifies the two building forms, acts as a sunshade as well as specialist LCD lighting to form a strong graphic.
The interstitial space between the show courts and the practice courts is the central entry and control point in legacy mode but the two spaces can be administered separately if required.

Built on the Western Peninsula, the Pelican Park Recreation Centre in Hastings presented a spectacular design opportunity given the magnificent location of the site, adjacent to the bay, and the design opportunities inherent in the brief. We therefore took our inspiration from the sea and the design reflects this maritime image with materials, forms and open areas which link to the marina and the Fred Smith reserve. The open spaces visually interact with the public promenade along the water’s edge giving the whole precinct a seamless connection.
