THE AWE MISSION STATEMENT

The Access Work Experience Department values diversity, the

opportunity to pursue lifelong learning and the right to work and

learn in a supportive and empowering environment.

The AWE students were given a project to describe their

first impressions of the university, what they liked best about it and what they

now feel about being a student.

“I saw how it was in the forest and it is so beautiful.”

“The campus seemed so big that I thought I would get lost.”

“I thought it would be dull, lame, boring and that I would not like it very much.”

“It seemed a pretty big place. The cafeteria is big.”

“Everything looked different to me like there were names for different buildings and courses. Also

there were lots of neat things on campus.”

“I felt very nervous of coming but it was the best thing I have ever done.”

“The instructors have been very encouraging and motivating in helping us succeed in the work

environment.”

“I really enjoy my program because it is teaching me a lot of things about the real world, of how to get a job and also it helps me find out what kind of job I

want in the future.”

“Now I like it here a lot more because the work experience placement I have is going well and the

stuff we learn in the classroom is sometimes interesting.”

“Now I like the school because I know the school well and I feel confident. The campus is

wheelchair accessible and easy to navigate around.”

“I like the school because there is a bus service that goes directly to the school without having to

walk far. I also like how easy it is to get to my class.”
