Pearl Harbor (Local Reaction) Read tp. 140-142After reading the following from tp. 140-142 “Then the War Comes,” answer:

At about 8:00 am December 7, 1941, Japanese planes flew through the early morning clouds and dropped their bombs on Pearl Harbor and other military bases on Oahu in a massive surprise attack. U.S. military and naval forces were lost. Caught unaware, the U.S. military and naval forces lost 188 planes, 8 battleships, 3 destroyers,3 light cruisers, and 4 miscellaneous vessels. More than 3,000 American soldiers and sailors and some fifty-seven civilians died, either hit by gunfire or trapped in sinking ships.

The attack enraged the American population and destroyed antiwar and isolationist sentiments in the country. Congress immediately declared war on Japan… [and] entered World War II… Although the Pacific fleet suffered tremendous losses, the United States was not at the mercy of Japan. [The U.S. still had its aircraft carriers which were not at Pearl Harbor and could launch an offensive against the islands of Japan.]

The people of Hawaii readily responded to the emergency. Radios went silent to prevent enemy planes from listening. Doctors, nurses, firefighters, and police immediately reported for duty. People gave blood, followed blackout commands, and cooperated with government orders.

Answer in Quickwrite in np: Had you lived in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked, how would you have felt? What would you have done?
