Thirty years ago, we trusted Tom Walsh to fight for Peabody on Beacon Hill. Sadly, as state rep., Tom violated our faith in him. The state Ethics Commission determined he misused his office to take lots of free stuff from lobbyists and influence-peddlers – including expensive gourmet dinners, luxury box tickets to Celtics and Bruins games, tickets to a concert and ballet performance and rounds of golf at an exclusive Florida country club. Even by Beacon Hill standards, that’s a lot of taking for one representative! The state Ethics Commission certainly thought so. They forced Tom to pay a big fine to avoid being charged with a crime. Rather than face the wrath of voters, Tom did not run for re-election. Now, more than 20 years later, once again Tom asks us to trust him. Seriously, Tom? If we gave him a second chance to represent us, how much illegal free stuff would Tom take this time?
