underway with our practice books. Any additional practice at home will be extremely helpful! Reading graphs and patterns were the two
main concepts of math. We made salt paintings for art class and applesauce for our theme (both messy but fun!). I'm sure your students
have told you all about those projects!
Keep reading the Christ Light page with your child. The page comes home twice a week and has some home activities on the back. It is
so awesome to hear the students retell the story to me the following morning! Our first singing date is October 5th at the mission church
in Detroit. It is a Spanish hymn so we are practicing the words in class a lot. I will be sending those words home for you this week to
practice as well.
If you would like to drive for our field trip on September 24th, please make sure you have turned in the proper forms to Mrs. Block in
the office. Look for a permission slip on Monday.
Mrs. Gorsegner - Preschool . . . . We made it through another week of preschool! This week, Mrs. Dostal and I share our favorite books
with the preschoolers. If you child has a favorite book, let me know. We can schedule a time to read it to the class.
We are becoming more adjusted to the school routines. Here are a couple things to remember: please don’t send toys to school unless it
is their snack and sharing day. We don’t want any hurt feelings if something gets lost or broken. Please allow your child to sign in all by
themselves. It is ok if they don’t trace right on top of their letters or even write on the correct line. We will get there. Finally, although
we understand the importance of “rough and tumble play,” we don’t allow it preschool. In fact, we try to discourage all use of using an
item as a knife or gun toys at school. Sometimes it helps to remind your child of that rule before they get here.
Next week, Friday, the fours will be making applesauce. Please send an apple or two to class on Wednesday for our recipe. Thanks.
This week we have a new student in the fours. We are excited to get to know him. This means there are currently 16 in the fours class
and 7 in the threes.
Mrs. Dostal and I are enjoying getting to know your little ones. It is going to be a great year.
Have a blessed weekend.
School Cleaning ~ Attached to this note is a
cleaning schedule for September through
December. Thank you to the families who
volunteered to help clean. We really
appreciate your willingness to help. If you
are scheduled for a date that you know will
not work for you, please let Mr. Wilson
know. If you are not on the schedule but
would like to help, again, please let Mr.
Wilson know.
Those scheduled to clean on the
weekend may clean either on Friday after
school or on Saturday. If you need to clean
on Saturday, please let Mr. Wilson know so
we can arrange to get you into the building.
Parking Lot Procedures ~ Thank you for
your help so far in keeping our parking lot
safe. Please remind anyone who is picking
up your children to follow these guidelines (a
diagram is available in the school office):
Please enter the parking lot from the
entrance on Merriman (closest to
preschool) and exit through the exit
on West Chicago (closest to church).
This is the route the bus takes through
our parking lot. If everyone follows the
same path, it will help eliminate any
“traffic jams” with the bus at the end of
the day.
Please do not park in the three spaces
that have been crossed out on the
southwest corner of the school. This
leaves space for the bus to make that
turn.
Parents, please be sure to use the
crosswalk by the main school doors.
This is the safest way to cross because
there will always be a teacher
monitoring the crosswalk. In addition,
it reinforces what we have taught the
children about crossing the parking lot.
Please drive slowly through the parking
lot.
If possible, please back into the parking
stalls to allow you to pull out more
safely.
Dress Code ~ As the weather begins to get
cooler, please make sure your children are
dressed appropriately for recess. Shorts may
only be worn if the temperature is above 70
degrees. Please be sure that shorts and skirts
are an appropriate length. The dress code
also prohibits clothing that is ripped or
frayed. Thank you for your help in making
sure your children are dressed appropriately
for school!
Church Singing ~ Our first singing date will
be next Sunday, September 21. The Youth
Choir will be singing in both services on that
day. If your child is in the Youth Choir,
please have them in Mrs. Wilson’s room by
8:15 AM. Ms. Samantha Barber will be the
director.
Activity Day ~ All day Activity Day is back!
Since there are no MEAPs scheduled for
October we can resume our old schedule for
Activity Day. For those new to our school,
Activity Day is a special day where instead
of classes; the student body is divided into
teams. These teams participate in various
activities such as assorted relays,
tournaments, and other fun things. During
these activities students are encouraged to
use cooperation, listening skills, and problem
solving as well as physical skills. This day
offers a great fellowship experience for both
students and parent volunteers.
We usually have a potluck for lunch. If
you can provide a dish please fill out the food
part of the form below and return it to school
by Monday, September 29. Since the
kindergarteners are participating, they are
invited to stay for this special lunch and
participate in the afternoon kick ball
tournament.
In order to make this a success we need
lots of volunteers to help with a variety of
things such as supervising a team (make sure
they follow the rules), reffing a kickball
game, be in charge of an activity station,
setting up food for lunch, and cleaning up. If
you can help with anything please fill out the
volunteer part of the form. Your help is
greatly appreciated and needed to make this
day a success. If you have any questions, see
Mrs. Jan Murphy. Volunteers can be
grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles etc. We
will need at least 30 to be successful. Most
jobs are finished by lunch.
Panther Athletics:
~ Volleyball: The girls will be playing at
HVL this weekend in a round robin
tournament. We would love to have some
extra fans to cheer them on. Please see the
schedule attached to this Friday Facts for
more information on the times we play.
Go Panthers!
~ Cross Country: Each year our school
participates in the Lutheran High Westland
Cross Country Meet at Hines Drive
(Nankin Mills Picnic Area). This year’s
date is set for Friday, October 3rd. Please
see the sign-up sheet for all meet
information in this week’s Friday Facts.

To guarantee your child a t-shirt, please
return your registration form and money to
Mrs. Van Loton by this Tuesday,
September 16th.
~ The season of Fall sports is very short! As
a coach, it never seems like enough time to
teach the game as fully as we would like.
So, when the the end-of-the season LES
Tournament comes along on OCT 4th, it
seems as though the kids are finally
understanding the game and enjoying it
because they are playing well AS A
TEAM. Please understand that coaches
and players put a lot of effort into teaching
and learning the game. I understand
commitments and/or vacations, however,
absences can/will hurt the team’s chances
to succeed in the tournament. Please keep
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4th open to
travel to HVL for the LES Tournament. If
anything should change, we will be sure to
notify you as soon as possible.
Catechism Class Parents Meeting ~ Pastor
Kieta needs to meet with the parents of the
7th and 8th graders in our school this year to
explain to them the purpose and the
procedures of catechism class. He will be
meeting with as many of those parents as
possible on either Tuesday September 16th at
7 pm or Thursday September 18th at 7 pm.
Please try to come to one or the other of these
meetings. If neither of these times works for
you, please call Pastor Kieta and schedule
another time. This is a very important part of
the catechism class process and he very much
appreciates your help.
