May the NewYear usher in new opportunities, triumphs and hope for all ICTians. New Year eve was celebrated all around with full zest and zeal, as if immune to the biting cold and rainy weather on that day. Evening celebrations carried on well past midnight and people stepped in 2014 with hope and optimism, leaving behind the year gone-by, a generally difficult one. The new Aam Admi Party with the mission to wipe out corruption from public life getting into limelight and succeeding to form Government at Delhi, has raised fresh expectations and hope of the common man. As per tradition, a New Year function was organized on 1 January 2014 at our Corporate Office. At the outset, one minute silence was observed in the memory of our departed colleagues Mr. Puppala Ramesh, Mr. Rameshwar Singh Rana, Mr. C. Amudha and Mr. Daljit Singh who left us for their heavenly abode during the year 2013. 1 January being an auspicious birthday for some, our colleagues Mr. S. P. Rastogi, Mr. J. S. Yadav, Mr. Chandan Basu, Mr. R. K. Jolly, Mr. Nazrul Imam, Mr. Shyam Kishore, Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Ms. Geeta Shukla and Mr. Veer Singh were wished a “Very Happy Birthday”. Lucky ones to get best wishes on such a mass scale ! After the preliminaries, our Presidents, Mr. A. D. Narain, Mr. N. K. Sinha and Mr. Amitava Basu addressed the gathering. While touching upon the prevailing economic scenario in our country and its recessionary consequences on infrastructure sector in particular, they shared their perspective and cautioned that the near future may be more competitive and challenging. Therefore, in order to maintain our continual growth, we need to focus on work planning, adherence to planned schedules and aim to provide cost effective, efficient and time bound services. Thereafter our CMD Mr. K. K. Kapila addressed the gathering. The highlights of his address appear in this Newsletter. The closing event was the Award Ceremony. In addition to the existing awards, two new awards, Munshi Ram Kapila Award and Harcharan Das Nair Award were instituted by our CMD, Mr. K. K. Kapila alongwith his sister Dr. Kanti Kapila. There were a total of 18 recipients of the various awards. The citations were read out by Mr. Prashant Kapila and the awards given away by Mr. K. K. Kapila. Happy Reading, st st On 7 December 2013 at our Sholapur site Mr. Gautam Chattopadhyay, Design Engineer, suffered a heart attack during late hours. In the absence of his family, his neighbour, Mr. NurAlam, Pavement Specialist from Bangladesh, took his SOS call and became savior of the situation thereon. From arranging a doctor and emergent admission in the hospital onwards, he took upon himself complete responsibility of Mr. Gautam's care and treatment. He spent the whole night at the hospital and took all critical decisions regarding Mr. Chattopadhyay's treatment. He did not hesitate in either signing the hospital documents or in depositing money from his pocket for various tests and medicines. He was with Mr. Chattopadhyay till his Angioplasty was carried out and his family joined. Mr. Nur Alam has set a unique example of compassion and “ ”, a devotional practice of serving God, for all of us to emulate ! Well done Mr. Nur Alam. We salute you for what you did !!
