Sauer Group Compressor

Sauer & Sohn has more than 70 years’ experience and know-how in the design of high-

pressure compressors: founded in 1884 in Kiel under the name of Wilhelm Poppe, the

mechanical engineering company has been manufacturing a range of compressors –

initially developed in-house – since 1930, the beginning of a considerable success story.

These reliable, progressive products inspire confidence, and the company has become

established as a competent partner for industry, shipbuilding and marine. Through its own

subsidiaries and distributors, the Sauer Group now has a presence in all of the important

markets around the world. It is also well known around the world for top quality and

the most modern high-pressure compressors.

Innovat ion through Competence

Influenced by continuous research and development for the benefit of our customers, Sauer

quality stands for established technology, sound functional design and superior finished

product. Our compressors are easy to use, require little maintenance, provide exceptionally

long service life, have above-average reserve in all areas and through their robustness guar-

antee a particularly high level of availability.

The variants and possible applications for our machines are unlimited. In industry, Sauer pis-

ton compressors of up to 350 bar have proven themselves in control processes and industrial

production facilities requiring high-pres-

sure air and gases. Around the world, we

supply almost all branches of industry –

sometimes with highly unique, special

designs upon customer’s request. We gain

satisfied customers by providing expert

support from the outset. Sauer offer you

a worldwide service to help analyse your

own individual needs, provide accom-

panying services for technical design,

professional installation, commissioning

and maintenance, together with availa-

bility of Sauer original spare parts from

supply ex stock – even after 35 years.

Sauer & Sohn in KielA tradi t ional locat ion and a hub for ideas

As the oldest location and headquarters of the Sauer Group, our parent com-

pany in Kiel-Friedrichsort has established itself as the heart of an international

operating company.

Around 130 employees work in the design, technology, assembly, quality

inspection, sales and service departments of this medium-sized, single owner

managed company.

The Kiel plant is of vital importance to the Sauer Group as a centre for ideas.

Qualified technicians and engineers work continuously on a programme for

improvement, new developments and custom-built models, so that our cus-

tomers can continue to rely on leading technology from Sauer for the future.

Special voltages and frequencies, water-cooled, earthquake-resistant, explo-

sion-proof or diesel-driven models, as well as weatherproof designs for

external installation, are just some of the examples of the special compressor

variants we manufacture.

The modern products of Sauer & Sohn inspire confidence all over the world!

Robust compressors for any appl icat ion

The 2-stage air-cooled compressors helped establish Sauer reputation for high quality. We have been making

them for over 75 years – they are now in their third generation of development – for, in particular, applications

in the energy industry. With this robust and simple type of compressor, you get a machine that is specifically

designed for continuous operation at up to 40 bar, and is certainly not an extension of a 10-bar low-pressure

compressor.

Standard Equipment

A tr ied-and-tested long-distance runner: tough, low-maintenance and proven worldwide

To be able to meet customer’s demands for particularly low-maintenance compressors, Sauer, in conjunction with

well-known partners successfully developed a series of 3-stage air-cooled compressors at the beginning of the 1970s.

Through the division of compression into three stages, these designs demonstrate exceptional endurance even under

very difficult operating conditions. We have delivered over 4,000 of these compressors to our customers all over the

world for a wide range of applications – you too can benefit from our experience.

High-pressure compressors wel l above the industr ia l standard

High-pressure compressors with pressures of up to 350 bar are a tradition at Sauer: you can still inspect our

WP 3231 – the first lightweight high-pressure compressor in the world – in the Deutsche Museum in Munich.

From this foundation and through a process of continuous innovation, we developed products whose reliability

and cost-effectiveness are well-regarded in the market, and which are not “beefed-up” breathing-air compres-

sors. When it comes to the heart of your high-pressure system, you can put your trust in compressors that are

well above the industrial standard.

The al ternat ive to a i r -cooled compressors

Our know-how in the design and construction of water-cooled compressors, gained over 75 years in

supplying dockyards and shipping company’s worldwide, has meant we can offer a series of highly

competitive alternatives for use where air-cooled compressors cannot be used. Enjoy the benefits of

robust water-cooled compressors for your application: low noise, no need for cooling air and much

less heat release to the environment.
