REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT

ACADEMIC YEAR-2018-19

Department of Mathematics has evolved and grown in several directions. A comprehensive

review of the Department and its academic activities during the four year period 2015-2019 was

conducted by a panel of distinguished experts Mr.M.V.Deshmukh under the guidance of

Principal. The others eminent persons visited the Department and interacted with faculty and

students. The reviewers have complimented the Department on some of its achievements and

also provided pointers and suggestions to facilitate further growth. The report and the

suggestions together with an action plan have been discussed with the Principal and the Institute.

Academic Programs:-

Mathematics subject taught at F.Y.B.Sc. and S.Y.B.Sc.. There are also programs for students of

undergraduates to increase the skills in core subject in addition to commitments to the core

undergraduate curriculum.

Conference/Workshops/Seminars (Participated/Paper Presented):-

M.V. Deshmukh presented a poster on “Use of Gauss-Jordan Elimination Method to

Balance Chemical Reaction” at International conference on Sustainable Materials for

Advanced Research in Technology at PDEA’s Baburaoji Gholap College,Sangvi,Pune. 5-

6 February,2018.

Innovative Teaching in the Department:-

The teacher in the Mathematics department uses and applied different innovative

teaching methods as

1. Story Telling: Students love to hear stories and therefore, storytelling is one of the

best ways to get their attention in class.

2. Visual clues: Using visual clues easily supplements auditory information and students

can easily connect better with ideas.

3. Social media: The different social media platforms such as websites, google classroom

etc. can be used wisely to teach to make the science classrooms more interesting and

engaging.

4. Thinking Maps: This is an ideal way to visually represent different thought processes

which help to organize the education with a better flow.

5. Argue with Science: Learning through argumentation gives students a widened

thinking to contrasting ideas which in turn deepen their understanding.

6. Computational thinking: This is an advanced technique to improve thinking and

problem solving skills. The method comprises decomposition i.e. breaking large

problems into small units and pattern recognition-related problems to the ones which

were already solved successfully in the past.

7. Projects: This can be an individual activity or group activity which helps students to

showcase the application side of what they learnt through theory. When students pass

through these stages, they can improve their skills to express ideas, problem solving,

overcoming the challenges, team work and self-assessment.

8. Video clips: This teaching technique makes use of instructional video clips available

online or in libraries to show and teach a new concept.

9. Power Points: Instead of the conventional talk and chalk methods, teachers now

include power point presentations in their classroom sessions to make it more interesting.

10.. Research books: Teacher can promote the use of research books in classrooms

rather than just text books and lecture notes. Students are asked to do a research on

whatever topic is covered in class by means of libraries, websites or by talking with

experts.

11. Science Quiz: Include quiz as a part of your classroom sessions when teaching

Mathematics. This can be done as a whole class activity by splitting the group into 4 or

more sets.

Innovative Evaluation :-

1.Open book test were conducted.

2.Students seminar were arranged and those students shows their innovative skill, he/she

awarded by cash prize immediately.

PRIZE OF RS.10 CASH GIVEN TO MISS NILOFER INAMDAR BY PROF.MANOJ DESHMUKH FOR GOOD THINKING SKILL TO SOLVE MATHEMATICS PROBLEM OF LINEAR INDEPENDENCE OF VECTORS ON 1.1.2019 AT 2.50PM.

PRIZE OF RS.10 CASH GIVEN TO MISS KAJAL KOKATE BY PROF.MANOJ DESHMUKH FOR INNOVATIVE THINKING SKILL TO SOLVE MATHEMATICS PROBLEM OF LINEAR SPAN IN LINEAR ALGEBRA ON 3.1.2019 AT 3.15 PM.

On the occasion of “NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY-22 DEC.2018”birthday of Great

Mathematician Shrinivasa Ramanujan and Birthday of Shri.Sharadchandraji Pawar Saheb ,

department of Mathematics organized a Intercollegiate “General Mathematics Competitive

Examination” during 10.00AM to 11.00AM.The total 54 students were participated for this

examination .The top three rankers were awarded by Certificates and Cash prize as ,First Prize-

Rs.151 and Certificate, Second Prize-Rs.101 and Certificate, Third Prize of Certificate and

remaining participant awarded by certificates.

Students were busy in General Mathematics Competitive Examination-20.12.2018 at 10.00am

colleges .The said ceremony inaugurated at the hands of Dr.S.F.Dhakane,Vice Principal ,

Prof.M.V.Deshmukh ,Dr.R.U.Mene, Prof.Kawade, Prof.Ajit Dumbre ,Prof.Chavan,Prof.Ghule

worked as a expert/ judge for this quiz .The winner team “Panini” and First runner up team
