PDAM Malang presentation PDAM Malang is a local government-owned company which is a tool of regional autonomy established by the Regional Regulation No. 6 of 1981. The Malang Municipal Water Company serves about 147,000 customers (around 80% of Malang population) and manages a distribution network of nearly 2,500 km over an area of 110 km². The water network is composed of 15 pumping stations that produce around 1500 lt/dt and 31 reservoirs that totalize a water volume of 28 000 m3. In Malang the water is providing from water sources and PDAM is only using chlorine for the purification; the chlorine level they must achieve is not more than 0.2 ppm. PDAM Malang staff and operators need to be immediately informed of any problems arising at the water treatment plants, the pumping stations, the reservoirs and the District Metering Areas in order to be able to deal with the problems immediately to avoid undue impact on the services provided to the water customers. For this purpose, they decide to install a telemetry and District Metering Area system based on SOFREL solutions. Indonesian Reference The telemetry and DMA system In order to monitor and control in real time water levels, flow rates, pressures, pump running times, water quality the telemetry system is based on SOFREL data loggers (LS Range) and SOFREL Remote Terminal Units (AS Range). More than 50 SOFREL products (Sofrel LS and Sofrel AS) are installed in different sites of the network (pumping stations, reservoirs, inlets of District Metering Areas, Flow meters manholes, Pressure Reduction Valves, major consumers meters…). About 75% of the drinking water system is equipped with telemetry products. All the data monitored (levels, flows, pressures, water quality, pumping times…) are permanently controlled and saved by the SOFREL data loggers and RTU in order to be transmitted periodically by GPRS communication toward the SOFREL PCWin2 central SCADA software. The security of the communication and the management of the dynamic IP addresses is managed by the SOFREL SG 1000 front end. Some communication using Radio frequencies allow inter-sites control between reservoirs and pumping stations, in order to optimize the management of the water resource.
