Matthew 17:9-19

9 I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.10

And all mine are Yours, and Yours are mine and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the

world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father keep through Your name those whom

You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them

in Your name. Those whom You gave I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that

the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they

may have My joy fulfilled in them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 14 I

have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am

not of this world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep

them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by

Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As you sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

In John 14:6 Jesus proclaims “I am the way and the truth and the life”. In this statement Jesus unequivo-

cally links Himself with Truth and the path He embodies. When we live by the Truth we embrace the pur-

poses of God. Living “truthfully”, according to God’s Word, will protect us from being “pretenders” and

move us to being “truth-tellers” in every aspect of our lives.

When you have a moment re-read this passage and glory in the fullness of Christ available to us through

the illuminating work of God the Holy Spirit thereby evidencing we are truly not of this world, to the Glory

of God.

Sonshine Preschool Note ~ Miss Elisha January 29 - February 2, 2018

All is well this week!!! :)

In Bible we will be learning about Loving Others and our focus is on The Samaritan Woman at the Well. Our memory verse this week is “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm

51:10 This is going to be a busy and fun week – 100 Day on Wednesday, Speech Contest on Thursday & Groundhog Day on Friday!

In Phonics, we are reviewing syllables in addition to learning new daily special sounds. In Math this week we are reviewing adding two 2-digit numbers, place values, adding three numbers, identifying value of coins, and telling time to five-minute increments. We will be learning new concepts of 1/3 of a whole, 1/3 of a group and adding four numbers! The speech contest is this Thursday, February 1st. First grade will start at 8:30 am in our classroom. Parents and

grandparents are welcome to attend! There will be a panel of judges and they will select two winners from each

category (Bible Verse Memorization and Poetry) to represent PCA in the ACSI Speech Contest in Peoria, IL in

March.

Please turn in the January Book-It Reading Calendar this week by Thursday. The February Calendar will be sent

home on Thursday.

The students did a wonderful job with their shadows and artwork for our Reading Night display of “The Gruf-

falo’s Child” by Julia Donaldson. Thank you to Isabella’s mom for the delicious cupcakes!

Will you ‘bee’ my valentine?

2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett

In Bible class this week we are learning about Job. Our verse this week is Ephesians 4:2, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” We will recite this verse on Friday. Spelling test 19 will be on

Friday as well.

In math class we will be borrowing from the thousand place, the 14 subtraction family, multiplication twins, multi-plying by 1 and 0. In English we are finishing our reference unit and will be starting another unit on nouns. We

will learn the letters Jj, Kk and Ll in cursive.

Our class speech contest will be on Thursday, February 1st at 10:30. You are welcome to come watch our contest in our room.

January Book-It forms are due by the end of the week.

Because safety during recess and P.E. is important, students should be wearing shoes that have non-marking rubber soles with good traction. Boots are not the safest when playing in the gym during recess or P.E., so I encourage you to send your child in tennis shoes or have them have a pair they can change into that they leave at school.

Our Family Reading Night turned out amazing! All the children did a magnificent job. The book reports and the treehouses, the clay animals and the art were a grand sight to see of the desolate island called New Switzerland in

SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON. It was a great experience for all and they learned many things!

This week in Health we are focusing on nutrition and the children will be doing group presentations on the vita-mins. We hope to end our week with an interesting smoothie party with both fruit and vegetables. It will be fun to see the reactions to some of the mixture! No liver!!

Math – We are beginning to explore the metric system. We are also doing some brush up work on areas that somewhat forgotten. Subtraction with borrowing and our long division are still hard for some. We had a help class today. You will see some worksheets coming home for practice.

Reading - We are continuing to enjoy our Crossroads book. It contains neat little fables and moral stories that

teach the children sensible and godly characteristics that help us to live a right walk with God.

Bible – Finishing up our “Born Again” Chapter. Bible verse – 2 Cor. 5-7. So many bible verses that talk about the

gracious gift Our Lord has given us! The children are making good gains on looking up the verses too. Such rich-ness in the Word of God and consistency! Should plan for a test possibly Friday. TBA

Language. – With the book reports behind us, we are continuing the parts of speech. The different uses of pro-nouns and verbs will take us into next week. Test on this chapter will be next week.

History – We are still studying the early years during The War of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. We should finish that up by the end of week and I will announce a test.

Spelling - List 20 test on Wednesday

Coming UP!! Music Field Trip – We have been invited to join the PCA Band for a special morning concert with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. It is on Friday Feb. 23rd. The school is covering the cost of the visit, but we will stop for lunch at Pizza Hut, so each student will need to bring in 5.50 for the lunch buffet.

We will need drivers so if anyone can come you will have an amazing time!! Please let me know. Permission slips soon to send out.

Each new day brings a new way to praise the Lord!!

We are almost to February so what else can we memorize but the famous “Love Chapter” – I Cor.13? We will have the whole month to learn it. I think you will be amazed at their ability to memorize and retain God’s

Word.

We will have a Valentine’s party on Wednesday, February 14, from 1:30-3:00. The children may decorate a box, bag or envelope to be their Valentine container. We have seven children in our class.

I am planning a Springfield trip for our class. If you would like to go/drive for this, please let me know. The date will be in late April or early May.

Speeches will be performed for the in-house judges Thursday, February 1. The students are doing a fantastic job.

Have a wonderful week praising our Lord!

History test on Thursday

We are working on our book reviews for English. This week we will be revising. The final draft will be due next week.

6th - Exploring the Solar system: Planets & Moons. We dissected a duck on Monday. Thanks again to the House

family for donating it. Kids can’t wait to dissect the sharks! Well, maybe not the girls!

7th - Bird behavior: communication (audible, visual), actions and antics

8th - Understanding Weather: causes, water vapor, evaporation

We began reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream in class yesterday, and the quiz over Act I was given already today!

Nearly all of the reading will be done in class so explanations and translations (!) can be given. Therefore, it is really

important that students do not miss class time. The climax of this study will be seeing the play at the Chicago Shake-

speare Theater on February 9th. A letter will be coming home to parents (also attached to this note!) with last minute

details, so please check your student’s backpack! Please pay all monies before we leave on the 9th. Thank you!
