THURSDAY’S AREA HIGH SCHOOL RESULTS

Spartans score 3 times in each half to roll past Albert LeaPost Bulletin staff

Albert Lea’s boys soccer team came to Rochester on Thursday on a bit of a roll, having won four straight games, including two in overtime.

This time, however, the opponent was Mayo, and the Spartans made it clear from the very beginning that

there would be no late-game heroics

in this one.

Mayo totally dominated from start

to finish, allowing Albert Lea zero

shots on goal as the Spartans cruised

to a 6-0 win.

Mayo piled up 19 shots on goal and

senior captain Jibril Muse had a hat

trick by halftime.

Five Spartans had assists, and Jon-

athan Wright had an unassisted goal.

The Spartans are now 12-2-1 over-

all, and 10-1-0 Big Nine.

They host Farmington on Saturday

in the regular-season finale.

MAYO 6, ALBERT LEA 0Albert Lea 0 0 — 0

Mayo 3 3 — 6

Albert Lea: no stats submitted.

Mayo: Gabriel Gauther 1 assist; Jibril Muse 3

goals; Rauf Iftikhar 1 assist; Geo Castillo 1 goal;

Miguel Zuniga 1 assist; Nathan Spindler Krage

1 goal, 1 assist; Jonathan Wright 1 goal; Simon

Kennel 1 assist.

Century tops Austin in defensive battle

Century and Austin squared off

Thursday, and it should come as no

surprise that this one turned out to

be a defensive nail-biter.

Century had won four of its last

five games, and Austin came in with

a nine-game winning streak, having

given up one goal in those nine wins.

The Packers win streak now stands

at 10 after a 1-0 overtime win over the

Panthers.

The game-winning goal came with

just 40 seconds left in the second over-

time when Kevin Ortiz finally found

the net.

Despite the loss, Century coach Hal

Houghton said his team played well.

“Blake Larson had a great game

in net,” he said. “Cade Wilson and Andrew Coleman had strong perfor-mances on the defensive side of the game.

“Markus Melsness and Nour Mohammed played well in the mid-field defending and then switching the point of attack.”

The Panthers are 8-7 overall and will close out the regular season Sat-urday at home against Mankato East.AUSTIN 1, CENTURY 0Austin 0 0 0 1 — 1
