I am formerly the Director of Turning Point Learning Center’s f2f
Program where, for half a decade, I worked to create the

Learning and 1:1 laptops with a Democratic approach to
learning.
Graduating from Emporia State University in 1994 with a BSE in Social Science, I began teaching
the day school at a residential boys' home for The Farm, Inc. where I discovered differentiated
instruction and how to engage students well beyond my formal pre-service teaching instruction. I
taught all subjects to 11 boys at a time, ages 11-18, at the home's dining room table, using 20
year old textbooks.
Eventually uncovering a lifelong passion, in 2004, I earned my Master’s degree in Psychology and
Special Education with an emphasis in Gifted Education. I began working as the Gifted Services
Coordinator at Emporia Middle School and also serving as NCA Steering Committee Chair.
I have served on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Association for the Gifted, Talented, and

Conference Chair, and the Kansas Education Liaison, and have been a member of the National
Association for Gifted Children, working at both the state and federal levels, advocating for the

Currently, I serve as the co-chair of the Professional Learning Committee for the Kansas Learning
First Alliance (KLFA), am on the Board of Directors for Advocates for High-Ability Learners (AHA
Learners), am a member of the Kansas Council for the Social Studies, am a Google Certified
Teacher, and am a Discovery Education Network STAR Educator. I was also recently named
"Teacher of the Month" for Northeast Kansas by 27 KSNT and Fox KTMJ television out of Topeka.

Bringing the Learning to You
Be sure to ask about our “cateringto your needs” service, where wedeliver our menu items with yourstaff at your school.
We are offering hands-on, creativity-infused Studio Sessions for
participants interested in experiencing Project Based Learning. We
feel that teachers teach how they are taught, so many of the
sessions are created to nurture the learner in all of us.
Studios are not a “sit-and-get” workshop. The Studio format
expects that teachers will be bringing out their creativity and
following an active-learner approach to their learning.
All of our session are Full-Day Studios, except for the “Lite Side
Session.” See the menu for more details.
We offer our Studio Sessions in 3 distinct “flavors.”
Beginning Studio Sessions
If you're looking for an active learning
experience at a beginner's level these are

have previous experience in a PBL
environment.
Advanced Studio Sessions
These sessions are paced for those who
are already familiar with Project Based
Learning, but who are looking for the hard
questions and answers about how to
make it work. No need to have previous
experience in a PBL environment.
Masters Studio Sessions
In the Masters Studio, we will be working
with PBL-experienced colleagues,
sharing ideas for improvement, as well as
developing quality projects, based on
content expertise, as well as an
experiential knowledge base.
