Resources

Page 13: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil
Page 14: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

GTTP training session should address topics of astronomy and

have 3 types of tools:

* hands on activities

* New technologies

* Observations

Galileo Ambassadors: promote training sessions approved by

"Task force" of GTTP.

Galileo Teacher: participants of the training course that prove the

use in the classroom of the learned resources

Public: - 60% school teachers

- 10% professors

- 30% of undergraduate students

Page 15: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

Other Activities Observations of Equinoxes and Solstices:

International project of Brazil-Uruguay-Argentina for joint

observations, measuring the shadows cast by several gnomons

Page 16: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

Evaluation:

- Active participation of teachers and future teachers in the

sessions

More prepared and motivated teachers

… But ...

- Activities held only in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil

- Few teachers

- Few apply (or communicate that applied) in the classroom the

new features

learned.

- Lack of structure to follow the teachers after the courses

- Up to the moment, the multiplier effect is small.

Dr. Gustavo Rojas and students of UFSCar:

In two observational campaigns participants identified

known asteroids, and gave two important contributions:

the discovery of asteroid 2009 SZ33 and

recovery of asteroid 2008 CN1.

Regional Meetings of Astronomy Teaching

EREAs

Page 22: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

From 2009 to May 2015 were organized

57 Regional Meetings of Astronomy Education (EREAs)

with approximately 120 participants on average per event.

This leads to a total of about 6,700 participants and most

teachers of the school network of cities and regions in which

the events occurred.

Page 23: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

Federal Institutes

~100 Telescopes

Page 24: Paulo Bretones: GHOU in Brazil

Improvements are suggested considering

the regions of Brazil, institutions and resources

New Perspectives:

Projects of COMED/SAB:

- Training of Teachers in the initial formation

- There are about 100 telescopes donated to the Federal Institutes

(Ifs) with resources of the IYA

- Proposal of courses to use the telescopes which programs have:

- Contents/methods of Astronomy teaching

- hands-on activities

- Use of new technologies

- Observations with telescopes
