HIGH SCHOOL 9TH GRADE ART ELECTIVES: “FOUNDATIONS” COURSES
• High School Art electives begin with one required “foundations” course.
• “Foundations” include Foundations in Studio Art, Drawing and Design for Production , and Creative Crafts.**
• Students who are taking Foundations in Studio Art at Weber can take Drawing and Painting or other selected art electives (please see Program Planning Guide)**Students can also substitute Clothing and Textiles plus Housing and Environment
Core to fulfill the one credit arts requirement**

• Students take one of the foundations courses and then take courses that fit their interests and/or career aspirations
• Sometimes they follow a “direct line” (Example: Studio Art, Drawing and Painting, Advanced Painting, AP Studio Art)
• Others take less traditional paths (Example: Studio Art, Photography, Computer Graphics, TV and Video Production)
• And others take courses beyond the requirement based on specific interests (Example: Studio Art, Sculpture and Ceramics)

• An average of twenty -five students selected for the ASA All-County Art Exhibit for the past three years.
• Multiple students selected for the New York State School Boards Association Art Exhibit for the past five years.
• Multiple students selected for the national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
• Multiple winners of the Congressional Art Competition.
• Winners of numerous Town of North Hempstead Awards.

• Students begin to be able to take electives in art in Ninth Grade.
• High School Music electives begin with one required “foundations” course.
• These include Freshman Band, Freshman Chorus, Freshman Orchestra, or Music in Our Lives.
**Students may take Music Theory and Songwriting as their ”foundations” course, but this is rare.**
