Congratulaons to the recipients of the 2016 Convocaon Awards Dr. Darren Wood - K. M Bhatnagar Memorial Humanitarian Award for a faculty member who best portrays the aributes of the late Dr. Kumar Bhatnager (OVC 1968), by being acve in University affairs and supporng students outside the classroom. Dr. Andrew Peregrine - Ontario Veterinary College “Year 68” Award for Teaching Excellence for exemplary teaching, support and care for students over their four years at OVC. In June 2016, Dr. Patricia Turner was elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Council on Animal Care. The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) is the naonal peer-review organi- zaon responsible for seng, maintaining, and overseeing the implementaon of high standards for animal ethics and care in science throughout Canada. Iman Mehdizadeh Gohari, PhD Candidate with Drs. John Presco and Patrick Boerlin was awarded the Best Poster Presentaon at the 15th annual meeng of the Canadian Animal Health Laboratorians Net- work (CAHLN) at the Atlanc Veterinary College in Charloetown in early June. His poster tle was”Comparave genomic and cgMLsT analysis of netF-posvie clostridium perfringes isolates from foal and canine necrozing enteris”. Paige Vroom, MSc candidate with John Lumsden, received the best student poster presentaon (Parasitology, Immunology and Environment secon) at the recent Canadian Zoological Society meeng. Her poster tle was 'Regeneraon in Corallimorpharia'. Mei-Hua Hwang, MSc student with Dr. Stefan Keller, has received an NSERC scholarship. Please check the first four research posters that Nathalie and faculty have completed. They are now posted on the first floor near the Second Cup. Please also note that there is a monitor that is waiting patiently for stories, research summaries, etc. Please work with Nathalie to generate these. Be imaginative so that many more topics are available when the students return in the fall.

The second Pathobiology Ice Cream Day is July 12, reminders will come nearer the date. I hope that the temperature outside is warmer than the ice cream this time. All in OVC are invited.

Registration is open for the 71st International Conference on Diseases in Nature Communicable to Man (INCDNCM) and will close July 22, 2016! This year's INCDNCM meeting, co-hosted by the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative and the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses, will be held at the University of Guelph from, August 7-9, 2016. The meeting brings together the medical, veterinary and public health communities to dis-cuss multidisciplinary topics including viral, rickettsial, bacterial, parasitic, and prion-related diseases acquired from natural sources, including animals (wild or domestic), contaminated water or food supplies, arthropod vectors and other sources.

Defending Summer 2016? Register through WebAdvisor. Graduation request must be submitted to be processed. $60 late fees apply. Final Defense Forms have an 8 week deadline prior to proposed date of defense. Graduate Student Evaluation Reports required every semester. It is advised that you have a committee meeting every semester.

Wednesday Evening Walks For the months of June, July and August we have Wednesday Evening Walks that will begin at 7 p.m. at the J.C. Taylor Nature Centre. These 1 ½ hour walks will be on a different topic each week and are $2 / person however children under 5 are free. Below is a schedule with the topics for each week for 2016:

Guest Network Access New Self-Serve Registration Process for Guest Network Access at U of G

There is a new process for issuing guest net-work access on campus. Starting June 18th, guests can complete a simple self-registration process and will require the approval of a sponsor to complete this pro-cess. Any U of G faculty or staff member can be a sponsor.

1) Connect to the uog-guest wireless network

and open a web browser.

2) On the guest portal, click on the “Register” button to start the self-registration process.

3) Please provide your main email address and choose a password.

4) Specify the name and email address of your sponsor (typically the U of G staff or faculty member you are here to see) who can ap-prove your guest access, then click on “Register”.

The first 4 department posters are now up on the walls

on the first floor. Take the time to check them out. Nathalie

is available during the summer to work on posters and

websites. Contact her to get yours set up.
