Stewardship in Action Stewardship Outreach “Ministry of the Month”
You may be wondering how your offerings to Zion are used. What follows is an outstanding ex-
ample of how your generous giving serves as Stewardship in Action.
The Middletown Community Clothes Closet has been operating as an outreach ministry of Zion for
about two and a half years. Every Saturday the Clothes Closet welcomes between 5 and 10 clients.
Some select clothing for themselves. Other times, they are collecting clothes for their entire fami-
lies. And there are those who are getting clothing for extended family and friends who have no way
to get to the Clothes Closet on their own. On occasion the church staff and volunteers open the
Clothes Closet during the week when there is a desperate need. In a poignant example of such a
need, one local family who lost everything in a house fire commented “You cannot believe what
this means to us!”
The church congregation and the Middletown Community have been extremely generous with an
outpouring of their donations of clothes, warm coats and shoes. The Clothes Closet enables those
who wish to give the option of donating close to home where the clothes are given to those in need
free of charge. This is very important to many who donate. Volunteers give generously of their
time -- tirelessly sorting through all of the donations – separating them into categories of clothing
for men, woman and children. They also carefully stock the shelves in order to make the Clothes
Closet look like any other nice retail store so that it has the appearance of a nice place for clients to
shop. Some of these same volunteers work on Saturday mornings greeting clients. It only takes one
client like the women who stopped by this past Saturday to comment “My husband recently lost his
job and being able to come here is a blessing!” to make all of the hard work of sorting lots of cloth-
ing worthwhile.
Your continued donations and generous financial support in weekly offerings mean that Clothes
Closet volunteers can continue to purchase bags for our patrons to put their “treasures” in and help
pay the utilities on the Valley Registry property. Any new volunteers would be greatly appreci-
ated! It may not be exciting work in sorting clothing, but seeing the faces of people in need light up
when they find a treasure is truly heartwarming and rewarding!

Our safe house has concluded another successful year on
May 31, and we look forward to a great startup in the fall.
Safe House has successfully finished another school year. We are so grateful for the following adult volunteers and High School Mentors who faithfully show up and make Safe House possible. Adult volunteers Chris Perry, Deb Reichelt, Jackie Bello, Joe McIntosh, Karen Hollis, Kim Marcantonio, Lee Ropp, Meghan Gunsalles, and Vince Bello help indoors and out, setting up, provide snacks, play ping pong & basketball, and make their time available to the Safe House youth. High School mentors Jay Harsch, Robert Fulton, Kirsten Klipp, Sarah Spellane and Aiden Shanton fit Safe House whenever possible into their busy sports/activities schedules to play games and socialize with the middle school participants. Thank you to Amy Sowers, asst. director of Mar-Lu-Ridge and new member of Zion, for helping with mentor training, leadership and her weekly pres-ence at Safe House. Thank you also to Cathy Baker for volunteering to lead several craft activities with the middle school youth.

Help Needed!
As you might have noticed, the Bergman family have welcomed a little one into their family. They are thankful that all of Zion's congregation have been so wel-coming to this little girl! Because they don't know how long the baby will be staying with their family, they were wondering if anyone had a jogging stroller or baby backpack/carrier they could borrow? Please email Jennifer at [email protected] or call/text 734-834-4716 if you might have a spare!
Thanks so much!
Thanks you for the gifts your church pro-vided that funded my scholarship for seminary. This has made my education for my future call in word and sacrament more attainable. It is through your gra-cious gift that I am able to attend United Lutheran Seminary, With many thanks,
