Sounds kind of “hippie-dippie,” doesn’t it? That’s ok. It does. I thought the same thing, especially when I saw it was the name of a conference I was interested in attending; The Revolutionary Love Conference! What’s that all about? Well, I bit the bullet, went to the conference and ended up drinking the Kool- Aid. Last month I went to NYC and spent 3 days in a UCC/Reformed Church of America sanctuary with 200 other ministers, educators, authors and activists learning about how to embody, engage and enact God’s direction to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly (Micah 6:8).” Here are just a few of the 30 amazing people and topics I encountered: Rev. Traci Blackmon; the Executive Minister for Justice and Witness for the UCC, who spoke about the moral courage needed for black women to face down racism. Sister Simone Campbell; one of the infamous “Nuns on the Bus,” who talked about the challenges of fighting poverty in America. Van Jones; author and CNN political analyst who spoke of how we can reclaim democracy in the midst of racism, extreme nationalism and hate. Valerie Kaur; lawyer, filmmaker, activist and founder of The Revolutionary Love Project who spoke about the poverty of the soul and the powerful leadership of women warriors. She has an amazing Ted Talk that I urge you to watch. Google TedTalk Valerie Kaur. You will not regret it. I never tire of hearing others talk about how to engage scripture in new ways, how to fight for justice more aggressively and proactively, and feeling the hope of bringing forth the Kingdom of God. It energizes me and lifts up my soul. After listening to so many amazing people, I was so excited to return home and share every aspect of what I heard with you. “You need to hear this,” “everyone needs to feel this much love,” – “THIS IS GREAT!” Do you ever feel like that after hearing a sermon, reading scripture, participating in a Bible/book study or helping someone, unconditionally? I hope and prayer that you do. I hope that the Word moves you and excites you to the point where you feel like you just can’t control it and you just have to DO SOMETHING! You need to love. I choose love to be a force for justice and I ask that you stand with me. Hear about how LOVE can be revolutionary, practice revolutionary LOVE and share it with EVERYONE, everyday!

PASTOR GREG’S GANDERING
Sabbatical Part 2 of 3 From May 16 to June 12 I will be taking my part 2 of 3 sabbatical leaves. During this sabbatical I will be doing a study of some of the works of Bart Ehrman. Professor
Ehrman is an American New Testament scholar focusing on textual criticism of the New Testament, the historical Jesus, and the development of early Christianity. He has written and edited 30 books, including three college textbooks. He has also authored six New York Times bestsellers. His alma maters include Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College and Princeton Theological Seminary. He is currently the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The works I will be focusing on are his books, “Jesus Before the Gospels: How the Earliest Christians Remembered, Changed, and Invented Their Stories of the Savior,” “Peter, Paul, and Mary Magdalene: The Followers of Jesus in History and Legend,” and a Great Courses lecture series based on his work, “How Jesus Became God: The Exaltation of a Jewish Preacher from Galilee.”
In addition to study, I hope to get in a bit of camping, fishing, and hiking. And… house work.
Hopefully, somewhere in there I will find the restful re-creation for which sabbatical is intended.
May Did You Know...
If anyone is interested in placing a flag in Mark's Peace Garden "in remembrance" for Memorial Day, please see Mark Stevens to make arrangements.
A Special thanks to Kari Miles graciously agreeing to share her time and musical talents with us by filling in as our pianist until a permanent person can be found. She is a talented individual who began sharing her music with us on April 15th. If you haven't as yet had an opportunity to meet her, be sure to say hello and welcome. In the mean time, another Thank-
You to Jane for filling in. Two more candidates have shown an interest and hopefully a decision for a full-time pianist will be forthcoming in the near future.
Congratulations to Jane and Brian Shelton on their 25th wedding anniversary. What a special day for us all as they extended an open invitation to their Church Family to join them in renewing their marriage vows on Sunday April 22nd. I hope many of you were able to attend and join them for this joyous event. Congratulations and best wishes for many more anniversaries to come.
Another Lawn Mower Clinic along with Spring?? Morning temperatures of 27 degrees, some sun, some rain and of course some snow, has come to an end!! Along with all the hard work and discovering muscles we forgot we had (leading to massive doses of Ibuprofen for days after) it was a time of fellowship, camaraderie and yes, sometimes even fun. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered. All together we serviced 185+ mowers making this
another successful year and helping out the Church with this major fundraising event.
Because maintenance to keep the Church looking spiffy never stops, the Trustees are sponsoring an Outdoors Work day for Saturday, May 5th from 9:00AM-12:00noon. The scope of work will concentrate on weeding, trimming, cutting and sprucing up the yard and around the building. Speaking of yard and the approaching warmer weather, we can look forward to (or not) of growing grass and the need for volunteers to keep the yard mowed and trimmed. When
the annual sign-up sheet appears, please consider volunteering to man the mowers and take a turn keeping the exterior of our Church looking neat and green.
Michael attended an educational conference in New York over the first weekend in April that he said was a wonderful experience with speakers discussing "revolutionary love.” Be sure to ask Michael about this
learning experience.
Reminder - the all church Joy Group originally scheduled for April 29th has been postponed until a fall date yet to be determined.
Craft Fair Reminder. If you are a crafter or know someone who is a crafter, let Emily Joo or Carol Bliss know you are interested in sponsoring a table for November 17 and 18th event. Help us make this a successful event and perfect opportunity to do some Christmas Shopping.
