It’s a time of getting together with old friends and new ones. What does it mean to you? It also reminds me that this time last year Glenys and I were preparing for our transition to a new church. What a wonderful transition it’s been! Thank you to everyone for making our first year at Dearborn First such a wonderful one. Glenys and I are looking forward to our second year with great enthusiasm and joy! Annual Conference will also be a time of transitioning for the United Methodist church. Much debate will take place as we struggle to come to terms with the legislation that brought in the Traditionalist plan, making it prohibitive for reconciling congregations like ourselves to be as open and inclusive as possible. Whatever comes out of Annual Conference won’t be the final word. I am sure that not everything will be settled. In fact, it’s my feeling that everything will go down to the wire. The Traditionalist plan comes into effect on January 1 st 2020, so there will be time to continue to work out a way forward. Please keep everyone at Conference in your prayers during this historic time of transition. Remember you can also be pro-active by participating in the Pride march taking place on June 8 th & 9 th in downtown Detroit. Look out for the information and signup sheets! June also sees graduations on the 9 th followed by a Potluck at Ford Field with Good Shepherd, make a date in your calendar to join us! Father’s Day follows on the 16 th and we hope to honor all those who are fathers during our worship. A new worship series will start on the 23 rd titled, ‘Journeying with Paul’. In this series we will reflect not only on Paul’s journey but our own journeys in the summer, both near and far. We will have a table in the sanctuary for ‘found objects’. So, if you’re on the beach and find a shell or a pebble, bring it to the table. If you’re worshiping in a church while on vacation, bring the bulletin back and place that on the table. If you’re relaxing in a café and having the best cup of Chai Latte ever, bring the cup in. Do you get the idea? Let’s celebrate our journeying in the summer with our own ‘found objects’ and share them with each other! May all your journeying be blessed! Pastor David

Michigan is part of a national organization developed by the UMC that provides free immigration legal services to those in need. Every month, clients come to our church to consult with our JFON-MI attorney, and are greeted by friendly volunteers and nourishing snacks to ease their anxiety and make the visit more comfortable.
Clinic volunteers for hospitality and intake interviewers are needed,
also Spanish and Arabic language volunteer translators
Do you have a half hour before and after worship one Sunday a month to help care for our DFUMC
community by serving on the M.A.T. team?
Roles include:
Welcome MAT role:
Stationing at the double glass doors to open
and greet our members and guests.
Our Mobility Assist role:
Operating the lift for the wheel chair bound or those with other mobility issues; going into the parking lot to assist people coming to or leaving as needed; if you so desire volunteers are welcome to assist at funerals and
weddings.
We need to have two people per Sunday. A functioning group of 8-10 would mean serving only one Sunday per month. We
currently have enough to have one per week.
Please sign the MAT Matters list on the Hospitality bulletin board or contact Dan Smuk (MAT Coordinator) or Jim Taylor (Chair
of our Hospitality Team)
