Proff’s English World Past Simple The past simple tense is used for an action that finished in the past. It is formed by adding “ed” to the infinitive of regular verbs, for example, visited or helped. Jonathon visited hawaii last year. The humans helped Dracula to find Jonathon. Past Simple

The past simple tense is used for an action that finished in the past.

It is formed by adding “ed” to the infinitive of regular verbs, for example, visited or helped.

Jonathon visited hawaii last year. The humans helped Dracula to find Jonathon.

Spelling rules

For most verbs add “ed”:

Play C played

For verbs ending in “e” add “d”:

Like C liked

For verbs with a short vowel followed by a single consonant, double the consonant and add “ed”:

stop C stopp Cstopped

For verbs ending in “l” and add “led”:

Travel C Travelled

For verbs ending in consonant + “y”, remove the “y” and add “ied”:
