You already know how to form the Passé Composé tense. Here is a reminder:
Past participlePart of avoir
• Use part of the present tense of Avoir
• Then add the past participle of the verb you want to put into the past
Eg Il a regardé Nous avons joué
BUT one group of 16 verbs use the present tense of Etre instead.
MOST verbs use part of Avoir to form the passé composé.

These verbs are usually known as the“DR MRS VAN DER TRAMP” verbs.
When the passé composé is formed with Etre, the past participle behaves like an adjective. So, if you have a feminine subject (the “doer” of the verb), you must also have a feminine past participle.
Eg
Elle est allé (feminine)e
If the subject is plural, the past participle must also be plural.
Eg Ils sont allé (masculine plural)
