Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner The baskets in the entrance hallway fill up

with non-perishable food each weekend, which is then delivered on Sunday afternoon to the Frederick Food Bank by our parishioner volunteers. A bulletin insert this weekend alerts you to a shortage this winter at the Food Bank, and the kind of items that are most helpful. While you can take your donations directly to the Food Bank, you may also drop off your donations in the baskets on your way to Mass. If you haven't committed to a Lenten discipline yet this year, consider bringing 40 items of food (one for each day of Lent) to Mass with you over the remaining weeks of Lent. As I have mentioned already, our new church plans are really developing well, and we are aiming at having our groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday 31 May! I will confirm this date and the time when we solidify plans with the Archbishop. If you want to keep up with the development of our design, you can find the latest version on our website. I hope you will be pleased. The Easter flowers that grace our altar area for many weeks are always a welcome sight after the starkness of Lent, and the coldness of this particular winter! Please use the designated envelope in your envelope packet during March sometime to help us truly decorate in the joy of the resurrection season. Last Saturday morning we had a meeting to start planning the development of our relationship with our sister parish in Haiti. We were visited by a parishioner from St. Timothy Church who shared their experience. I'll provide more information as this project progresses. Thanks to all those who have donated auction items for the Drexel Ball, and those who have already taken part in the Chinese Raffle after Mass. Try to get some friends together for this special occasion as we honor our patron saint's feast day, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Ball on Saturday night!

The Season of Lent

“The Salvation Paradox”

Rice Bowls are available at the Information Center for use at home as a family Lenten devotion. Having one simple meal a week at home, praying about those who experience hunger around the world on a regular basis can help your family experience this special season.

Donations support the work of Catholic Relief Services.

A Lenten Prayer Booklet for family activities during Lent is available at the Information Center. Please note the booklet "It's All About Love" is dated 2014. That is a misprint - the book is for Lent 2015.

Lenten Fridays will be observed at Saint Katharine Drexel with a simple meal of soup and bread (you bring the bread, we provide the soup) at 6:15 PM followed by various Lenten prayer experiences at 7:00 PM. This is a great way to make Lent a special time for your family. Check the purple bulletin insert for more information.

FREDERICK COUNTY PARISH TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND

This fund has now been established by eight parishes in southern Frederick County to aid families who wish their children to receive a faith-based elementary or high school education in Frederick County Catholic Schools. Beginning in 2015, a distribution committee composed of representatives of each participating parish (rather than the individual parishes themselves), will be determining the awards on the basis of financial need. The distribution committee uses the FACTS Grant &

Aid Assessment to conduct financial need evaluations. Families should apply through FACTS as in years past, making sure to indicate the school your child will attend, and the parish to which you

belong. We are grateful to the many parishioners in southern Frederick County who make a monthly offering for Catholic School Education to support this fund and assist young families desiring a faith-based education for their children. Go to online.factsmgt.com to set up your account and begin. There is a $28 processing fee for this service. The deadline to file is 31 March 2015. If you have questions, call 866-441-4637. You may also direct questions to our parish Business Manager, Michael O'Connor (301-360-9581).
