For the BMW Z3 roadster and coupé with remote control (SA 305) only
The installation time is approx. 3 – 3.5 hours, but this may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it. The installation time for the tilt alarm sensor (optional) is approx. 1.5 hours.
This retrofit kit is only for use within the BMW dealer organisation.
Ordering instructions
The bonnet contact and the connection cable for the bonnet contact are not supplied with the retrofit kit (see note in the EPC).
Installation instructions
The ultrasonic sensors supplied with the retrofit kit must not be installed.The plugs supplied in the installation kit are to be used to make all the electrical connections. Cut the cables and crimp on the contacts.Seal cable passage holes to the engine compartment using suitable sealing compound.Tie back excessive cable lengths.Do not kink or damage the cables as you install them since otherwise they will cause faults that can only be localised later by means of extensive troubleshooting work. The costs incurred for this work will not be reimbursed by BMW.
Target group
The target group for these installation instructions is staff trained on BMW cars with specialist knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.
Work:All servicing, repair and installation work on BMW cars is conducted at your own risk.All work is to be completed using the current BMW- Repair manuals- Circuit diagramsin a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and in compliance with current health and safety regulations.

Lay the emergency current siren wiring harness (1) to the right-hand side of the car as shown. Lay branch
SM
forwards to the left headlight.

Drill an 8 mm hole in section (1).Lay the emergency-current siren wiring harness (2) to the rubber grommet and from there behind the glove compartment.
Connect the connection cable (1) to the bonnet contact (2). Place the bonnet contact (2) into the existing mounting (3) above the left headlight.

The connection cable (1) and the bonnet (2) are not supplied with the retrofit kit (see note in the EPC).

Connect the terminal lug (1) to the earth post X166. Fit branch SM on the emergency-current siren wiring harness with a blade terminal contact (2). Connect the plug (3) and blade terminal contact (2).
0 Remove the base module (1) and undo the module holder (2). Hold the DWA control module (3) against the control module holder (2) as shown and mark the holes. Drill 4.5 mm holes in the control module holder (2). Screw the DWA control module (3) to the control module holder (2) using the enclosed screws and nuts M4.

If the specific installation site is occupied, fit the DWA control module at another point behind the glove compartment."
0 Connect the white 8-pin plug B and the white 24-pin plug A to the DWA control module (1).
0 A22 Lay the boot contact branch, BR/WS along the standard wiring harness to the left-hand side in the footwell. Cut the BR/WS cable (1) on the standard wiring harness and strip it. Crimp a socket and a plug contact on to both ends of the cable.Connectthe plug casing (2). Connect branch A22 and the plugcasing (2).
10. To connect the emergency-current siren wiring harness

0 Cut the emergency-current wiring harness (1) to the required length.Insulate and tie back branch SN, RT/SW cable.Fit a plug contact and casing to branch S24, SW cable.Fit a socket contact and casing to branch A24, bonnet contact, BR/VI cable.Connect branches A24 and S24.Crimp a blade terminal contact to each of the remaining cable ends of the emergency-current siren wiring harness (1).
Connect the blade terminal contacts to plug SCas follows:
0 Remove the free cover from the centre console. Install the LED (1) and new cover (2). Lay the LED cable under the centre console towards the glove compartment.
0 Connect branch D, white 4-pin plug to plug (1). Connect up the LED connection cable (2)to the cables of the same colour.
12. To install and connect the tilt alarm sensor (optional for Z3 roadster only)

0 Remove the existing cable ties from the coarse thread stud bolt (1) (not required). Place the tilt alarm sensor (2) as shown with the holder (3) on to the coarse thread stud bolt (1) and secure it with plastic nuts (4).
0 Cut branches a1 to a4 to the required length and strip them. Crimp on the socket contacts (1) from the installation kit. Connect the branches into the white 6-pin plug a as described below.
Connection to the white 6-pin plug a:
a1 alarm ON branch, SW/WS/GE cable to PIN 1.
a2 terminal 30 branch, RT/GR/GE cable to PIN 2.
a3 terminal 31 branch, SW cable to PIN 3.
a4 terminal 75 branch, SW/RT/GE cable to PIN 5.
Connect plug a to the tilt alarm sensor.
0 Helbako tilt alarm sensor
Screw the holder (1) to the tilt alarm sensor (3) using hexagonal screws M6 x 12 mm (2). Connect the adapter cable (4) to the tilt alarm sensor.
0 Remove the existing cable ties from the coarse thread stud bolt (1) (not required). Place the tilt alarm sensor (2) as shown with the holder (3) on to the coarse thread stud bolt (1) and secure it with plastic nuts (4).
0 Cut branches a1 to a4 to the required length and strip them. Crimp on the socket contacts (1) from the installation kit. Connect the branches into the white 6-pin plug a as described below.
0 Various functions, such as the volume of the signal and examination of the alarm circuits during the arming phase can be adjusted to suitpersonal requirements.The various settings can be adjusted by programming the system using the programming unit.Further information is given in programming manual 01 29 9 789 189.

Before activating programming mode the plug connection F must be disconnected. No other programming is possible.After completing the programming reconnect plug connection FOtherwise the DWA cannot be disarmed. "
If you lose the remote control key or it fails to work properly, the DWA can be disarmed using a personal code.

The yellow envelope supplied with the installation kit must not be opened by the workshop personnel. This envelope contains your personal code. The envelope is to be given to the car owner unopened."

The Dutch version (NL) does not offer the facility to disarm the DWA using a personal code."

The DWA cannot be armed if the ignition key is in position I or II."
Procedure Response1. Arm the DWA using the remote
control keyThe doors and boot are locked simultaneously and the hazard lights will flash twice. The LED will be lit
2. After approx. 45 seconds the DWA will be fully armed

The emergency-current siren will emit an alarm signal and the hazard lights will flash
4. Arm the DWA using the remote control key,wait for approx. 45 seconds and then raise the carat the side using a jackNoteThis function is only possible if the optionaltilt alarm sensor has been installed

5. Disarm the DWA using the remote controlkey
The doors and boot are unlocked simultaneously and the hazard lights will flash once. The LED will go out
