Brief Background

• Camden has two libraries, Narellan and Camden

• Population of 52,132 as at June 2007

• Overall, 30.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 12.0% were aged 60 years and over

• 17.1 EFT staff

Why partnerships?

• Our vision is to be a community hub

• To achieve this vision it is imperative we work in partnership with a range of organisations

• Attract new audiences to the library through programming and new partnerships

Community Services

• Work with Council’s Community Services Team

• Seniors Week, Youth Week, Harmony Day, NAIDCO week

• Attend their planning day• Attend festivals, storytime

Road Safety Education

• Work in partnership with Council’s Road Safety Officer

• Child Restraint Safety Checks in Library car park

• NRMA Years Ahead Program – Road Safety for Seniors

Eco Literacy

• Work in partnership with Council’s Environment Education Officer/Team

• Invite them to attend storytime, run a holiday program i.e worm farming

• Edible gardens for families workshop

• Backyard organics for families workshop

• Photographic competition• Eco-friendly cards, wrapping

and decorations workshop with kids

Cultivating Creativity in Camden

• Work in partnership with Council’s Cultural Development Coordinator

• Artist of the month• Inconcert Series• Community Art

workshops• Skills development –

through Work for the Dole in digistising Oral Histories

Sowing Seeds, Growing Stories, Harvesting Families

• Storytime training for Family Day Care Carers

• Welcome to parenthood talks in partnership with SWSAHS and Camden Community Connections

• Making books with children aged 0-6yrs

• Work in partnership with Youth Café Coordinator, Council’s CPO, Youth Agencies

• Schools run Advanced Research Skills training to students and teachers

• HSC Lock In – Uni students as tutors

• Web design, short films

Be Health Smart

• Health Information Online sessions held monthly

• Mind, Body Spirit Program in partnership with publishing company

• Benevolent Society• Alzheimer’s Australia

• Training conducted by NSW TAFE Outreach

• Volunteers conduct one-on-one training

• Work in partnership with Centrelink’s Free Financial Information Service topics include:

• Understanding Shares• Getting Ready for

Retirement – Age Pension and Your Choices

• Running your Own Super Fund

Work with other libraries

• SLNSW conducted preservation training for local historians

• Ellen from SLNSW conducted Roving Reference training

• Conduct NSS @ Macarthur Square in partnership with Wollondilly & Campbelltown. Also Youth Summer Reading Program – to date we have over $900 in sponsorship for this program

Changing Face of Camden

• Work in partnership with Camden Historical Society and Camden Area Family History Society

• Established a Flickr account to capture communities images of changing place/faces of Camden

• Preservation workshops• Work with State Records on delivering Archive

• Partnerships require relationship building and networking

• We are proactive in promoting the library and what we can offer

• We have evaluation forms and book/website lists to activities we run
