This rock is a Volcanic plug. Volcanic plug is created when magma hardens within a vent of an active volcano.

This type of rock would be extrusive since it's formed outward.

This type of rock would be called a Dacite. It has a gray and yellow texture.

This rock would be called an Organic Sedimentary rock.

This rock is a sedimentary rock. When I received this rock many years ago it was said it came from a town called Coalinga, CA. It came from an open field. The town is situated about 100 miles east of the ocean. Upon further research the area of Coalinga use to be an ancient sea bed. So, the possibility it came from Coalinga, Ca, can be true.

The reason you can tell it's a sedimentary rock is by the texture of it. Mostly, all sedimentary rocks have layers or strata. Sedimentary rocks can sometimes collect various organisms bones or shells that undergo some recrystallization in ground water. This becomes a fossil.

This type of rock may be called a Gneiss, due to medium foliation.

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that are altered by pressure and heat.

This metamorphic rock was found on Avila Beach, Ca

Metamorphic is very similar to igneous rock, so you have to look closely and examine all the detail of it.

Sedimentary rocks are formed from consolidated clay sediments.

This Sandstone Rock is a clastic sedimentary rock. It's location was found near the ocean.

The reason you call tell it's a sedimentary rock is by the texture. The rock is made up by sand size debris.

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that are altered by pressure and heat.

This metamorphic rock was found in San Luis Obispo, Ca.

Metamorphic is very similar to igneous rock, so you have to look closely and examine all the detail. This rock has multiple layers. It may be called a Gneiss, which are found almost anywhere.
