Role of fire doors?

In the event of a fire:

Maintain fire compartmentation and reduce smoke spread.

Protect escape routes to allow safe evacuation.

Protect escape routes to allow search and rescue to proceed.

Save lives and protect property.

What has been going wrong?

On construction sites.

• Poor installation.

• No certification.

• Poor knowledge and understanding of the role of fire doors.

• No inspection

• No demand for third party approved fire door installers.

• No demand for trained operatives.

What has been going wrong?

In exisiting buildings

• Little or no repair and maintenance

• Poor fire door inspection by risk assessors.

• Too many doors to check and no budget to do it.

• The Regulatory Reform Order 2005 is helping to expose many non compliant fire door installations.

Third party approved installer schemes?

Reduce risk and liability for manufacturers, end users, insurers, clients, specifiers, contractors, legislators ………

Reduce the risk of loss of life and product failures by ensuring professional installation

Reduce damage caused to property and hence insurance losses should a fire occur

Compliance with Regulation 38.

Encourage insurers and Building Control that fire safety has been given appropriate consideration
