The date of birth accepted by the Commission U that en-tered in the Matriculation or Secondary School LeavingCertificate or in a certificate recognised by an Indian Univer-sity as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract froma Register of Matriculates maintained by a University whichextract must be certified by the proper authority of theUniversity. In no case will Bank Drafts drawn on any other Bank beaccepted. Defaced or mutilated Bank Draft will also not beaccepted.

The expression Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examina-tion certificate in this part of the instruction includes thralternative certificate mentioned above.

Sometimes the Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examina-tion Certificate does not show the date of birth, or onlyshows the age by completed years or completed years andmonths. 6. A candidate belonging to any of the categories refenedto in para 5(il), (hi), (iv) and J(ix) above seeking remissionof the fee under paragraph 7 of the Notice should also pro-duce an attested/certified copy of a certificate from a DistrictOfficer or a Gazetted Officer of Government or a Member uf

the Parliament or State Legislature to show that he Is not ina position to pay the prescribed fee.

7. A person in whose case a certificate of eligibility !•required may be admitted to the Examination bu; the offerof appointment shall be given only after the necessary eligi-bility certificate is issued to him by the Government of India,Ministry of Railways/Urban Development/Defence/Energy/Water Resounds/Communications /Commerce /Informationand Broadcasting/Industry/Steel and mines.

8. Candidates are warned that they should not furnish anyparticulars that are false or suppress any material informa-tion a filling in the application form.

Candidates are also warned that they should in no catecorrect or alter or otherwise tamper with any entry in «document or i'.s copy submitted by them nor should theysubmit a tampered /fabricated document. If there is anyInaccuracy o r any discrepancy between two or more suchdocuments or its copies, an explanation regarding the discre-pancy rnav be submitted.

9. The fact rhat an application form has been supplied ona certain date, will not be accepted as an excuse for the latesubmission of an application. The supply of an applicationform does not ipso facto make the receiver eligible forAdmission to the examination.

10. Every application including late one received in theCommission's Office is acknowledged and application Regis-tration number is issued to the candidate in token of. receiptof his application. If a candidate noes not receive nnacknowledgement of his application within a month from thelast date prescribed for receipt of applications for the exami-nation, he should at once contact the Commission for theacknowledgement.

The fad that the Applicatioo Registration number hasbeen issued to the candidate does not, Ipso facto mean thatthe application is complete in all respects and has beenaccepted by the Commission.

11. Every candidate for this examination will be infor-med at the earliest possible date of the result of his appli-cator, It is not, however, possible to say when the resultwiu ue communicated. But, if a candidate docs not receivefrom the Union Public Service Commission a communica-tion regarding the result of his application one month be-fore the commencement of the examination he should atonce contact the Commission for the result. Failure tocomply with this provision will deprive the candidate of anyclaim to consideration.

CANDIDATES INFORMATION MANUAL

A. OBJECTIVE TEST

Your examination in the papers in Section I under eachEngineering discipline (viz. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical andElectronics & Telecommunication) in Appendix I to theRules will be what is called an 'OBJECTIVE TEST. Inthis kind of examination (test) 5'0U d o »ot write answers.For each question (hereinafter referred to as item) severalsuggested answers (hereinafter referred to as responses aregiven. You have to choose one answer to each item.

This Manual is intended to give you some informationabout the examination so that you do not suffer due tounfamiliarity with the type of examination.

B. NATURE OF THE TEST

The question paper will be in the form of a TEST BOOK-LET. The booklet will contain items bearing numbers 1,2, 3 etc. Under each item will be given suggestedanswers marked a, b, c, d. Your task will bo to choosethe correct or if you think there are more than one correct,then the best answer. (See "Sample items" at the end). Inany case, in each item you have to select only one answer,if you select more than one, your response will be consideredwrong.

C. METHOD OF ANSWERING

A separate ANSWER SHEET will be provided to you inthe examination hall. You have to mark your response onthe answer sheet. Responses marked on the TEST bookletsor in any paper other than the Answer Sheet will not beexamined.

In the Answer Sheet, fa specimen copy of which will besupplied to you along with the Admission Certificate) num-ber of items from 1 to 160 have been printed in (our 'Parts'.Against each item, circular spaces marked a, b, c, d areprinted. After you have read each item in the TEST BOOK-LET and decided which of the (riven answer is correct or thebest, you have to mark the circle containing the letter ofthe selected answer by blackening it completely with pencilas shown below (to indicate your response). Ink shouldnot be used in blackening the circle on the Answer Sheet.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT

1. You should bring and use only Rood quality HBpencil ft) for answering the itcm».

2. To change a wron« marking, erase it completelyand re-mark the new choice. For this purpose, yonmust bring along with you an eraser also.

D. SOME IMPORTANT REGULATIONS

1. You aro required to enter ftc examination halltwenty minutes before the prescribed time for com-mencement of the examination and cet seated Imme-diately.

3. No candidate will be allowed to leave the examina-tion hall until 45 minutes have elapsed after the com-mencement of the examination.

4 After finishing the examination submit the Text Book-let and the Answer Sheet to the Invigilator/Super-visor. YOU ARt NOT PERMITTED TO TAKETHE TEST BOOKLET OUT OF THE EXAMINA-TION HALL. YOU WILL BE SEVERELY PENA-LISED IF YOU VIOLATE THIS RULE.

5 You will be required to fill in some particulars onthe Answer Sheet in tho examination ball. You willalso bo required to encode some particular" on Ans-wer Sheet. Instructions about this will be sent to youalong with your Admission Certificate.

6, You are required to read carefully all instructionsgiven in the Test-Booklet. You may lose marks ifvou do not follow the instructions meticulously. Ifany entiy in the Answer Sheet is ambiguous vou willgot no credit for that item response. Follow theinstructions given by the Supervisor. When tlie Super-visor asks you to start or stop a test or part of •teat, you must follow his instructions immediately.

7 Bring your Admission Certificate with you Youshould also bring a HB pencil, an eraser, a pencilsharpener and a pen containing blue/black ink. Youure advised also to bring with you a clio-board or ahard board or a card-board on which nothiiift shouldbe written. You are not allowed to biinc anv scrap(rough) paper, or scales or drawinc instrument intothe examination hall as they are not needed. Separateihccts for rough work will be provided to you ondemand. You should write the name of the examina-tion, your Roll No, and tbe date of the teat on itbefore doing your rough wotk and return it to thesupervisor along with your Answer Sheet at the endof the test.

K SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

After you havo taken your seat in the hall, the invigilatorwill give you the Answer Sheet. Fill up tho required infor-mation on the Answer Sheet. After you have done this, theinvigilator will give you the Test Booklet, on receipt nf whichyou must ensure that it contains the booklet number, other-wise get it changed.
