What do you like most about B6? The amount of space the room has.
What do you like least about B6?
The pillars that obscure your sight in the back of the class.
What is the most important thing a classroom should have?
Space

What do you like most about B6? Space room it is very big
What do you like least about B6? Sight in the back of the class, it's hard to see.
What is the most important thing a classroom should have?
Space to see so equal shared space

What do you like most about B6? I like how there are computers for each student so they can do their work. Last Year we had to get laptops, and it was a waste of time.
What do you like least about B6? It is hard to see the board from the front.
What is the most important thing a classroom should have?
Lighting
Observations PROS presentation space in front of room (smartboard/whiteboards) lots of space hiding spots (for hard lockdowns) storage (cabinets and closets) computers CONS inefficient use of space > so many cabinets yet things aren't stored properly, the back is full of miscellaneous stuff bulky, outdated computers; decreased desk space lacks student organization; tables/desks split in an illogical and unproductive way insufficient lighting & bad natural lighting smartboard is too far for students in the back to see entire room is not aesthetically pleasing; looks crowded despite abundance of spaceThink About
Have you seen any other classrooms that you liked or did not like. Why?
We liked those classrooms were attributable to being very roomy and allowed for
group efforts to be done without difficulty. Furthermore, natural welllit classrooms with windows
inspire a more comfortable and new experience during lessons, which can result in students
being observant and lively during class.
Does your new classroom need to look like the same typical classroom?
No, our classroom does not need to be the typical classroom. It should be
creative and full of imagination but still have the basic components of a classroom.
What other classroom spaces around the world are inspiring and interesting?
In some classrooms, students sit on yoga balls which are more comfortable and
more fun and it allows those kids with ADHD to be more focused in class.
Will this classroom replace your existing classroom or become an addition to a different
part of the building? Will it be built in an empty lot or space? Will it be underground or
built on the roof? You decide.
Our classroom will replace another room in the school because our school is limited for
space. Our classroom will be located in the current architecture room. The room is located on
the ground floor which is at street level.
Part 2 Brainstorm Ideas: Part 2: Ideas for our classroom design
classroom: Middle School English class floor plan of arch classroom Furniture Essentials: 34 chairs and desks teachers desk chalkboard/smartboard
Reading area furniture: Rug Bookshelfs bean bags Materials: plastic tiles Using google images, we researched and looked up previously made classroom designs. We also looked up things the classroom needs as well as the materials required to build and support teaching.
In this classroom they designed a unique way for all students to be facing and viewing the smartboard the whole time. They are also put together so students can collaborate with one another.
In this classroom the teach er sits in the back to be able to view all the students. This allows her to see what they are doing as if they could be cheating or maybe requiring assistance.
In this classroom the desks are all connected to form a circle. This allows students to collaborate with everyone during group discussions.
In this classroom each student has their desk attached to one another and to the teachers desk. This allows the teacher to be able to view all the students who are very close to him. Also this design helps for easier distribution of papers.
In this classroom six desks are grouped together for students to collaborate together in small group discussions. some are smaller groups for paired group discussions.
In this classroom the students are also grouped into three pairs. this classroom uses computers, and the desk design allows students to have room for themselves without bothering one another. This design allows for space too.
In this classroom each group of tables seats six kids. Each group has two computers and a projector displaying what is shown on the teacher's computer so everyone can see it . The design is great for collaboration and for an easy view of what the teacher shows on his computer. General Information
How many students are in your classroom during the day? > ~34
What types of furniture is used now? Does it need to be movable? Why or why not >
Unmovable large plastic desks
What is the artificial and natural light in the classroom like? > Barely any natural light;
windows are covered; there’s only white artificial light
What materials are currently used on the floors, walls, and ceiling? > plastic floor tiles,
hard material on walls and ceilings
What are the different types of classrooms in your school? Are there any that are better or
worse than yours? > science rooms, computer rooms, generic rooms
What types of other buildings surround your school? Homes, businesses, parks, parking
lots, or an empty field? How will these other buildings impact the design of your new
classroom? > college buildings, athletic facilities/fields, residential buildings, food
stores/restaurants
What types of streets surround your school? Are they busy or quiet? > moderately active
streets
In our classroom, we plan to add computers for all the students to use. Its best if there is
nothing obscuring the view of the board for the students.
In our classroom, since it's designed as an english classroom, there will be an area of bookshelfs containing books students can read in their free time.
In our classroom, there should be an area designated mainly to class discussions and reading. It can also be used as an area to review over assessments.
In our classroom, there should be an interactive smartboard for kids to use. This can also be used as a powerpoint display where kids can copy notes and try out problems.
In our classroom, the teacher's desk should not be covered with papers like this one. It should be cleared better and be easily accessible by kids who might come up for help.
In our classroom, it must accommodate 34 students, so in order to accomplish this, we will have to group students in two or more groups. Also we have to consider how students move from their seats to the door and if they have enough room.
Part 3 Develop solutions: Combining parts one to two, we came up with solutions to change our classroom and eventually
came up with a final design
Draw a sketch or use software such as Google SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Revit to illustrate
your ideas. You can upload photos (JPG files) from your SketchUp model, video fly
throughs (FLV files) of your SketchUp model, or drawings (DWF files) from AutoCAD.
Consider including the following types of spaces and furnishings:
indoor seating and working area (tables, seating)yes
book storage (shelves)yes
media storage
audio / visual lab corner or space discussion part of classroom?
integration of technology computers at all desks
meeting / collaboration spaces
home station for the teacher
bins for recycling
