About Parranda

Parranda.org is a young non-profit entity dedicated to thedevelopment ofa Greater Puerto Rico.

We are an online/offline community of Puerto Ricans residing on the Puerto Rican archipelago, the mainland US,and other parts of the world.

Parranda.org aspires to rebuild a Puerto Rico that is safer,healthier, and more prosperous.

The first focus for Parranda is a global mapping project,where the goal is to knock on the virtual doors of all PuertoRicans no matter where they are and ask them to joinour cause.

We believe that nations are defined not only by their borders, but by theirpeople regardless of where they live.

Both the historic and recent flight of Puerto Ricans the so-called Puerto Ricandiaspora has created challenges for all Puerto Ricans, on and off the island.

Many people who have left the Puerto Rican archipelago want to give back.Many people who remain want to stay connected. But there are very fewmechanisms to do this.

We believe in social networking as a platform for enabling many different waysfor giving back, helping to build communities, and staying connected.

Such a platform would empower us to build a greater Puerto Rico: greaterbecause it extends beyond the physical border of the island, and greaterbecause it would have bigger aims.

Among our aims: helping Puerto Ricans to create stronger communities in theU.S., supporting entrepreneurs on and off the island, fostering programs toimprove work and educational opportunities for all Puerto Ricans.

We have a number of cultural institutions and social norms that can aid indevelopment of the network. We believe in the power of a virtual parrandawhere each and everyone knocks on the virtual doors of our neighbors, invitingthem to join the celebration.

The Parranda Global Summit: Thursday, May 30th, 2013, UPR-RP

Structured as an open space event where the participants

design and structure the event themselves the Summit has theoverarching mission to empower the new leaders of the GreaterPuerto Rico to learn from one another, align with one another,and take positive and measurable action across a broad range ofareas: economic development, entrepreneurship, healthcare,education, crime prevention, the environment, and voterempowerment.
