Boiler Types

Page 4: Parker Boilers Indirect Pool Heaters

Industry standard:Light, Residential/Commercial Duty Typical Pool Heater

• Normally a low mass .065 wall copper fin or cooper nickel units, 80 to 86% efficiency

• Minimal heating surface and mass, normally 1-2 sf per boiler horsepower

• Some models now available with Stainless Steel condensing secondary heat exchanger to 99%

Industry standardLight, Residential/Commercial Duty Typical Pool Heater Advantages • Low initial cost• Small footprint• Many Manufactures to chose from• Lots of fancy interfaces and control options• Most outdoor units stackless• Under light loads, can last a long time(i.e.

residential use)

Industry StandardLight, Residential/Commercial Duty

Typical Pool Heater Disadvantages

• Under heavy loads or long periods of use, short life span of tubes or heater (3-7 years typical)

• Non condensing designs will condense with out primary secondary loop or built in 3 way blending valve.

Industry standardLight, Residential / Commercial duty Typical Pool Heater Disadvantages• Stainless condensing section very

susceptible to corrosion with chlorines especially in salt water pools)

• Chlorine and or acid vapors in heater area will eat through .065 wall material quickly from outside in via combustion chamber.

Indirect Water Heating Advantages

• Indirect heat – no flame impingement on heat transfer area

• Furnace temp - always above dew point, even with 40 deg. F return water

• Industrial Grade heater some units like Parker - 11 gauge (.12 wall burner heat transfer area)

• Efficiencies to 86%

• Long lasting – 40 years.

• Low cost of ownership

• Indoor / Outdoor Applications

Indirect Water Heater Disadvantages• Higher initial Cost

• Longer footprint

• Limited number of manufacturers
