SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 12, 2017
WHILE WE’RE AT IT… March 12, 2017
Dear Friends,
We got our ashes and we’re nearly two weeks into Lent… how is it going so far in getting closer to God?
Some helpful reminders:
1. Find your desert – we all need some silence and prayer to be able to listen and hear God speak to us. Monday nights in at St. Lawrence are perfect for this with our Lenten series “The Art of Devotion”. Our first one last Monday with Fr. Vince Druding drew 200 parishioners! This Monday, March 13 at 7:00 pm Fr. Tom will speak on “The Healing Power of the Eucharist” and lead an hour of praise and worship of the Blessed Sacrament. It’s a perfect way to deepen your prayer experience. Monday the 20th we’ll host Fr. Dan Tuite…
2. Help someone who is away from God - Alpha starts Wednesday March 22. We all have family and friends who are away from the Church. Bringing one soul with you to this friendly, no pressure experience may help them rediscover their faith. A meal, a video, a small group discussion – easy to do. They’ll come if you invite and even bring them with you…
3. Stations of the Cross - this devotion is ancient but powerfully effective in helping us develop a personal relationship with Jesus. Do Stations of the Cross and you won’t take sin lightly any more. Every Lenten Friday at 6:15 p.m. at St. Lawrence and 7:00 Sacred Heart, and 8:15 Spanish at St. Lawrence.
4. Confession - Everybody needs Confession, and Lent is especially a good time to take an inventory of our soul, and get things right with God. How about you? Expanded hours are every Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 at St. Lawrence. Don’t know what to confess: in the Church there are pamphlets that guide you in examining your conscience and preparing a good Confession. And the priest will make it easy, even if it’s been a long, long time…
Let’s have the best Lent ever… one that gets us on track again in our relationship with God. If we have that relationship in good shape, we’ll be able to handle all our other problems with his grace.
God bless, Fr. Richard Gill
BOOK SIGNING BY FR. TOM BERG Fr. Tom just published his book, “Hurting in the Church: A Way Forward for Wounded Catholics”. He offers a way of healing for those who may have left or those who remain in the pews but suffer because of someone in the Church who has hurt them – a way of reconciliation, healing and hope. It’s a valuable book that can help us all reach out. You can pick up a copy on Amazon, and we’ll have copies available at the book signing Sunday, March 12 at 12:00PM in the Parish Hall. That’s today after the 11:00 mass!

and two smaller meals. Meat is not permitted. Abstinence: Every Friday is a day of abstinence from meat during Lent.
