It ’s a huge decision for the people of Scotland. They have to weigh up all the arguments, all the pros and cons and then choose to stay or leave. The decision they make will decide their future and the future of their children. Life is full of decisions and we have to make them every day. Some major decisions, some trivial but they all have an effect on life and how we live it. Many of the decisions we make are based on our faith and the guidance we receive from prayer, scripture and the Holy Spirit. This faith helps us choose, but does not force us. We make our own decisions and hope they are the right ones. Passing on our faith to future generations also involves decisions. I think that one of the decisions we have to make is to show our children the importance of joining other Christians in Church on a Sunday morning, asking for God’s help and guidance for the week that lies ahead. The Harvest Festival in All Saints will be on Sunday 5 October 2014. The church will be decorated on Saturday morning (4 October) from 10.00 am to 12 noon. If you wish to donate fruit and vegetables - or your time - for the decoration of the church, all will be most appreciated. After the Harvest Service the fruit and vegetables will be given to the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People in Dublin. Contact person: May Conneff 01 – 2887625.
~~~~~ Did you know that according to Dr. Thomas Har twell Horne (1780 – 1862) - the King James version of the Bible has 66 books; 1,189 chapters; 31, 173 verses; 774,746 words; and 3,566,480 words. Described as an eccentric theologian (surprise!), Dr. Horne also informed the world that the shortest book is the Third Epistle of John, 294 words; the shortest chapter is Psalm 117, two verses; and that the midpoint of the Bible, by word count, is - yes, you have guessed it – Psalm 117, verse 2. Before you dash off to prove Dr. Horne wrong, three other researchers, working independently, have put the Bible’s total letters at 586,589; 3,586,489; and 3,567,180 respectively. On lesser differences have religious sects been founded, and battles fought, in the past.
~~~~~ Excerpt from a New Catechism Q. What pain in the head did Moses suffer from? A. Sinai sitis. Q. How did Moses find a remedy for his affliction? A. God gave him ten tablets.

**************
The Rector at Harvest Festival had arranged all the vegetables in front of the Altar. He asked the chil-dren if they could name them. The replies were “potatoes, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and swede”. So he asked if they could use one word to cover them all. A little boy held his hand up and replied " Gravy"

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and said, "Johnny, what is the matter?" Little Johnny responded, "I have pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."
***************** A preacher was completing a temperance sermon: with great expression he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river." With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."
And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river." He sat down. The song leader then stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn no 365: "Shall We Gather at the River."

Present
Blithe Spirit
an improbable farce by Noel Coward
To get background for a new book, author Charles and his second wife Ruth light-heartedly arrange for local mystic Madame Arcati to give a séance. The unfortunate result is that Charles' first wife Elvira returns from beyond the grave to make his life something of a misery. Ruth too gets increasingly irritated with her supernatural rival, but Madame Arcati is at her wit's end as to how to sort things out.

Eimear McBride’s first novel ‘A Girl is a Half-formed Thing,’ was our reading
for the meeting on Monday 8th September. It won the Inaugural Goldsmiths
Prize, the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award and the Baileys
Woman’s Prize for Fiction and was nominated for several others but if you had
listened in to our discussion no one agreed with any of it! However, books
which we dislike are often the ones that lead to animated conversation and chat and so it was with this
book. It is written in the first person. She lives with her mother and brother who has difficulties on
account of a brain tumour and surgery when he was a child. It covers her teenage years, volatile emotions
and teenage angst. This is represented by ‘staccato’ writing which was quite difficult to read. The
reviewer did a great job on detailing the good side of the girl; her love and protection for her brother is
well drawn but her behaviour to protect him from bullying at school is very skewered and overly graphic.
The book for the next meeting on Monday 13th October at The Wishing Well at 11 am is The Cuckoo’s
Calling by Robert Galbraith (the name J K Rowling uses when not writing Harry Potter.)

St. Brigid’s Church of Ireland National School News
At the time of writing we are now in our fourth week back at school and enjoying the lovely sunshine so far. Our new Infants and other children who joined us are settling in nicely. A particular warm welcome to our new 5 th and 6th class teacher, Ms. Shaw, who we hope will be very happy with us in St. Brigid’s. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Ms. Wilkinson well in her new position as Principal of All Saints’. On our return to school we were met with lots of surprises – a new roof, new front door, new kitchen, new photocopier – many thanks to everyone involved especially Rev. Ian Gallagher for all his support and Mr. Colin Galavan for his long-term tireless work in over-seeing this work to its positive conclusion. Also, a huge thank you to Simon Grier for all his time spent working on the school computers during the holidays. Even though we are only back a short time 1st and 2nd class have already had two very enjoyable field trips to: The Natural Bakery in Stillorgan and Rock pooling in Dun Laoghaire We wish everyone an exciting action packed year in St. Brigid’s. From all the staff and pupils.
Camp on the Green
We had a wonderful time at our annual Camp on the Green with the sun shining and lots of
activities to keep the children busy. This year’s Camp saw the biggest turnout in 11 years
with over 50 children attending from all the sections - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. The
Scouts set up camp on the Friday night with the Cubs and Beavers arriving on Saturday. It
was a great adventure for the beavers, most of whom were camping for the very first time.
After pitching the tents all the children split into teams and competed a number of tasks, at bases set up round the grounds.
This included lighting fires and making pancakes.
We enjoyed a campfire, a movie and some “midnight feasts” on Saturday night and some very enthusiastic Beavers meant
we had an early start the following morning! We finished up some with awards, prize giving and a chance to help Ian with
his Ice bucket challenge.
We would like to extend a big thank you:- to the parish for accommodating us and to the parents that helped in particular to

On Thursday 4th September we held our opening service in All Saints’ Church. It was well attended by members and friends and all present very much enjoyed the talk given by David Reynolds of the ‘Dublin Central Mission’. This was an informative talk about their work with the elderly and the changing face of their mission work emanating from their central mission on Abbey Street. Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious supper in the Trinder Room, providing a chance to catch up following the summer break. Many thanks to the ladies of All Saints’ for organising the room and the food and to June Bow and May Conneff for setting up the Church. Many thanks to the Rector for taking the service and to Clive for the music.

When Mary heard she was the mother of Jesus she sang the Magna Carta The people who followed the Lord were called the 12 decibles
One of the oppossums was St Matthew who was a taximan Christians have only one spouse. This is called monotony
St. Paul cavorted to Christianity, he preached holy acrimony which is another name for marriage

A 4 year old’s prayer: “And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.” & A 3year old’s prayer – “”Our Father, Who does art in heaven, Harold is His name. Amen.”
A wife and mom invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, “Would you like to say the blessing?” “I wouldn’t know what to say,” the girl replied. “Just say what you hear Mommy say,” the wife answered, smiling. The daughter bowed her head and said, “Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”
