Sacrament of Baptism We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the
Sacrament of Baptism of your child. You may begin preparation even before your child is born. To begin the
process, call Sue at 860-747-5451. The date of the Baptism is scheduled after attending the Parent Preparation Program.
Please note that Godparents must be confirmed and obtain a Sponsor Certificate from their own Catholic parish. Baptisms
normally take place Sundays after the 10:30am Mass.

News
Welcome Donna Marotto!
We are happy to announce that Donna Marotto will
be the Coordinator of Faith Formation and Youth
Ministry for the young people in our parish in
Grades 7 – 12. Donna began her position here on
Sept. 3. Welcome Donna!
Walk in the Word God’s saving history is His Story. Join us as we continue to Walk in
the Word to find your story there also.
Information and registration by calling the parish office at 860.747.6825. Come, join the
adventure! Each Friday evening, monthly event features a meal followed by large and small group activities,
videos, and discussions. Meet friends, enjoy the meal, and ‘unlock the mystery of the Bible’. Find your place
in His story and make it your own!
Helpers Needed Those who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation
are invited to serve as aides in our religious education classes, which are held on Wednesday afternoons and
Sunday mornings every other week. Those interested are asked to speak with Fr. Ray.
Meeting for Religious Education Teachers
There will be a meeting for teachers and class
helpers of Grades 1 – 6 THIS Monday, Sept. 9 at
7pm in the parish center.
Catechetical Sunday – Sept. 15*
Catechetical Sunday will be celebrated in our parish
NEXT Sunday during the 10:30am Mass. It will mark
the beginning of our Faith Formation year in our
parish. Special features of the Mass will be:

Our intergenerational faith-formation
program, GIFT, is entering its 12th year. Have
you experienced it? All ages come together to
share a meal, followed by age-appropriate
learning of how our Faith affects our lives. Great
community building, enjoyable presentations, and
thought-provoking insight. GIFT is held once a
month, on Friday
evening. Opportunities are
available for you to share
your talents to develop the
monthly program, set-up,
shop, prepare the meal,
present, assist with children,
pray, clean up, and also
behind the scenes preparation of materials.

New Day Bereavement Group Living through grief is not easy and it does not have to be done alone. Our parish will offer a ten-week program
on Wednesdays, from 6 – 7pm, beginning September 18. To express interest please
call the parish office at 860.747.6825.
Feast of Our Lady
YOU are invited to the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, beginning with the 4pm Liturgy on Saturday,
September 21, 2019. Mass will be followed by a potluck supper in our Parish Center. If your LAST
NAME begins with: • A through N, please bring a main dish • O through T, please bring a side dish • U through Z, please bring a dessert
Each food dish should serve 6 – 8 people. For ease of clean up and return, please use a foil pan, if at all possible, and bring a serving spoon or fork labeled with your name. Also, to create less waste for our environment,
please consider bringing your own reusable utensils & drinking cups
to the feast for you and your family. Look for food suggestions

Feast of Our Lady of Mercy Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers to help make the celebration of our Parish Feast Day on Sept. 21st
successful. Many hands make for light work. The following is a list of opportunities for your
consideration: Friday, September 20, 6:30pm – Parish Center Gym
You will be joining our First Year Confirmation students in setting up the gym for our parish pot luck supper. This is a wonderful opportunity for all parishioners to work with some of our parish teens for the good of our
parish celebration. Saturday, September 21, 3 to 3:45pm – Gym and
Kitchen of Parish Center Accepting food items for our parish potluck supper and
locking up the gym at 3:45pm. Saturday, September 21, 7:30pm – Gym and Kitchen Clean up of gym and kitchen. Immediately following
our pot luck supper you will be joining with our Second Year Confirmation students to clean up. This is a
wonderful opportunity for all parishioners to work together for the common good of the parish. Please call
the office at 860.747.6825 to volunteer. Thank you in advance
for making the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady possible & thank you to all who
have volunteered so far!
Thank You… to everyone who participated in and helped with our
Parish Picnic last Sunday. A special thank you to Debbie Hardy for organizing the picnic and to the
Knights of Columbus for cooking as well as setting up and cleaning up.
Like To Sing? Join Our Parish Choir!
The Parish Choir at Our Lady of Mercy is an extremely dedicated group of volunteer adults who sing at the
Sunday Mass at 10:30 am and at other special services throughout the year. Rehearsals take place in the Parish Center immediately following
Sunday Mass beginning TODAY - Sunday September 8. There is plenty of room for more singers including young adults and students. For more information or to schedule an informal interview, please see

Mass of Remembrance St. Gregory the
Great Church of Bristol will
celebrate a Mass of Remembrance on Wed., Sept. 11, at 7pm commemorating the
18th Anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. A reception will follow in the Rosary Hall
following the Mass.
St. Anthony Society Meeting
All women of the parish are invited
to attend our first meeting of the
season and come and see what we
are all about. Participation in the
Society can be as little or as much as
you wish. We enjoy the events that we sponsor, which
help to benefit the church with much needed funds.
The dues are $5 a year. You are invited to our first
meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12, a party, you don’t have
to bring anything, just yourself, in the parish center,
room 106 at 6pm. Please call the parish office with
any questions.
Benefit Breakfast for Brian’s Angels
St. Gregory Outreach will hold a Benefit Breakfast for
Brian’s Angels Homeless Outreach on Sunday, 9/15 at the
CCD Center, 8am – Noon. The all you can eat Breakfast
will consist of pancakes, sausage, scrambles eggs, home
fries, coffee, tea & juice. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5
for children ages 6 – 12. Tickets may be purchased at the
door. Brian’s Angels Outreach provides a place for the
Homeless to get out of the elements every afternoon so
they can rest, take a nap and get a snack. It is a totally
volunteer organization. Every dollar they receive is used
to help the clients. Please help us make this a successful
event for this worthy organization.
K of C Casino Bus Trip
The Plainville Knights of
Columbus are sponsoring a bus trip
to Mohegan Sun Casino on
Saturday, October 5, 2019.
$40/person includes: bus ride, $15 meal ticket & $10
gaming slip. There will be a 50/50 raffle on the 1-hour bus
ride. We will leave the parking lot located at 19 S. Canal
St. at 1:45pm and will return around 9pm. Book early to

Magnificat
Magnificat is a ministry of Catholic women inviting women
of the parish to a breakfast on Saturday, October 5 from
9am to Noon at Double Tree by Hilton, 42 Century Drive,
Bristol. The speaker will be Laila
Bravo, a cradle Catholic who turned
from the Church in her teens, was
led into various practices that took
her farther away from God, until
twists and turns led her back to Jesus
and the Catholic faith. The cost is
$25 and must be received no later
than Sept. 30. Checks may be made
