One Year…
One year since I’ve seen your beautiful face or felt your amazing hugs. One year since your laughter and
singing lit up my soul. One year since you inspired me with your dreams for your future and entertained
me with stories from you day.
One year of the most excruciating and unimaginable pain. One year of being unsure if life was still
worth living. One year of questioning everything I have ever believed about life and death and of trying
to hold on to my sanity.
One year of being determined to maintain my connection with you. One year of remembering all the
lessons you taught me every day about how to live. One year of striving to make every moment count
because, you never know.
One year since my whole world changed, including who I am at my core. One year of trying to accept
the reality of it all. One year of bearing the unbearable and wondering if I can ever truly be happy again.
One year of being so grateful that you lived even though your death is so painful. One year of feeling
you close by when I need it the most. One year of building a new network of support to help me survive.
One year of sleepless nights and intrusive thoughts about your last moments. One year of going through
the paces and routines of life without really feeling alive. One year of wishing for the impossible.
One year of finding the strength to talk to counselors and share my grief. One year of discovering
kinship and solace in the company of other survivors. One year of trying to remind myself that there is
still good and beauty in the world.
One year that seems like both the longest and the shortest of my life. One year of missing you so much I
didn’t think I could survive the pain. One year of still being your mom and still loving you like I always
will.
