Belief @ Schools

Parents are equally responsible

Schools cannot take ownership of total child’s growth/ performance

How can 1 teacher focus on individual needs We CAN

If we understand the Child’s eco system

Page 4: Parenting at Dadimaa Play school

WHAT has to be taught at School is pre-defined in syllabus by education ministry

HOW to deliver is the big question?

Thus before knowing the HOW, lets understand the child first

Understand Child’s Ecosystem

Urie Bronfenbrenner defined personal ecosystem in five different levels as below:

1.Microsystem

2.Mesosystem

3.Exosystem

4.Macrosystem

5.Chronosystem

Urie Bronfenbrenner was a Russian born American developmental psychologist and suggested this model for child development

Page 7: Parenting at Dadimaa Play school

Understand Child’s Ecosystem

MicrosystemMicrosystem is closest to child like parents, sibling, neighbour, daycare etc. This is most influential level for child development.

MesosystemMesosystem is the interaction between different part of individual microsystem . Like the relationship of parent with teachers, or neighbour. This also has a significant affect on child development

ExosystemExosystem is the next level of person development where the child does not get affect directly but trickles down through other people in child’s life. Has impact on child’s socialization. For example:•A child father / mother getting promotion or loosing job.•Child’s parent workplace•Social unrest•Change in government regulation•There is a upcoming dairy factory in your area and you are worried of pollution level•With a big hospital coming up in your vicinity property price goes up and that’s brings a cheer in family as your parent will get more money for their land

Understand Child’s Ecosystem

MacrosystemMacrosystem is much larger in perspective, refers to cultural, economical, political environment of country or region and it’s impact on child like the child development in developed and under developed countries. The difference in belief between you and your parents are largely related to their macrosystem. Few more examples could be:•Culture and values of country•Religion in which child grows•Political situation in country – democracy, dictatorship, war etc.•Economical status

ChronosystemChronosystem refers to experience and impact what the person undergoes with due course of time and major transition in his/ her life based on environmental events. Thiscomprehends difference in time experienced by individual and family. These becomes integrated part of individuals memory book. Birth, marriage, school entrance, puberty, graduation from secondary school, joining the workforce, military service, retirement, episodic illness, and death are normative events and part of chronosystem. Person develop capability to plan and handle them.Birth of a child with a genetic anomalies, divorce, suspension from school, being fired, relocation, winning the lottery, traumatic injuries, premature death, or chronic illness , natural disaster are non normative experience and person do not find self prepared for theseBoth normative and non normative events has impact on individual development, health and wellness
