Parent functions

Linear and Quadratic

These functions are the very basic form of a linear function and quadratic function.

From the parent function the equations can change based on what is being multiplied, added, subtracted, etc.

Linear Parent Function: y = x

Quadratic Parent Function: y = x2

These basic parent functions will change, but they still remain the parents.

Just like You! You might change as you get older and wiser, but your parents always stay the same.

As long as it is one straight line, the parent function is linear : y = x

As long as the graph is shaped like a U, the parent function is quadratic: y = x2
