A huge welcome to all year 7 parents and students.
I have been really impressed with the positivity shown by the New Year 7 pupils this week. They have
risen to the challenge and made their teachers, parents and themselves proud. Their enthusiasm,
positivity and general excitement has been infectious and long may it continue!
This week we have been focussing on positivity and raising aspirations, keep your eyes peeled for a list of
‘form attendance of the week’, ‘form achievement of the week’ and ‘student of the week’. These will be awarded every Tuesday in our year assembly.
In order to maintain our high behaviour expectations, the year team will be awarding students in year 7
with impeccable behaviour each term, with a free trip or activity. The students will be thinking of ways to
raise money for this in form this week. I am a firm believer that good effort and good behaviour should be
rewarded regularly. We will also be holding stalls at the KESA family fun day (next week) so please come
and see us.
Our students have looked really smart this week and are wearing their new uniforms with pride. I am
aware that there were some problems with the uniform supplier, if your child is missing a piece of uniform,
please send them in with a note.
If your child is off school through illness, please ensure that they bring a note in with them on their return,
even if you have called in; we need the note for their file.
Finally, you should all be contacted in the next 2 weeks by your child’s tutor, they will introduce
themselves and will be your first point of contact should you have any queries or concerns.
I hope that all year 7’s have had a fantastic (but probably very tiring) week and I look forward to greeting them back in next week.
Welcome to Year 8 – Mrs Lees
I am excited to introduce myself as Head of Year 8 team this year, and I very much look forward to sharing
your student’s achievements and successes with you over the coming months. We have a promising year ahead of us with many positive opportunities to support our students in achieving their full potential.
As a year group we have made an outstanding start to the new academic year with 166 students
achieving 100% attendance in the first week, giving us an overall attendance of 94.3%. Students have
earned a huge total of 1067 achievement points.
Very well done to each and every student for their commitment to learning.

What is KES Academy Friends?
We are a group of parents and staff who all give our time on a voluntary basis to organise and run fund-
raising activities for those in our academy community.
Our parent and teacher association (PTA), King Edward VII (KES) Academy Friends, has charitable status
and raises significant funds for the academy. We also value voluntary help from parents who may want to
join academy trips; help with learning support, hear a child read, or even come in and talk about careers to
our older students.
Our aim is to use the funds we raise to provide ‘extras’ for the academy. The academy gives us a ‘wish list’ of items they feel would be of benefit. For example, recent purchases have included equipment for
ICT, music, technology, drama, art, PE and science departments.
During the last academic year we raised over £10,000 for the academy. This was through a series of
events including carboots, race night, ladies pamper night, school discos, quiz night, Christmas
Celebrations and bingos. If you have any new ideas we would love to hear from you!
