Problem statementMany people are faced with the challenging task of finding street

parking during rush hour, especially if they have little knowledge

about the amount of parking or its availability in the area of their

destination.

We face to improve this task by building the ParCare Parking App.

Page 3: ParCare YAC Presentation 2016

Core Question

How can finding parking become easier and quicker?

Page 4: ParCare YAC Presentation 2016

Mini elevator pitch“My team, ParCare, is developing an Android App to

help drivers find available parking spots close to their to

destination from their phone using real-time data

collected from sensors to help users save time.”

Page 5: ParCare YAC Presentation 2016

Key insights● There are similar apps available, but they have

low ratings● The installation process for sensors in other

companies is a lot longer● Users want to have the least amount of steps

possible to find their spot

Data on where to position sensor 2/2

● Difference in X, Y, and Z values for when the car is driven over the sensor as opposed to not

● Data shows the most significant difference in Y (Vertical axis) is when the sensor is placed in the middle

● 2 Sample T-Test concludes that these difference in Y values are indeed significant enough and directly caused by the car

User Personas

Ringo Ross

● Stay at home dad who drives his kids

around the city● Has to frequently

find parking in areas he is

unfamiliar with● Would want to

easily find parking wherever he is in

the city

Kelly Keller

● 45 year old secretary that drives to work

every day● Has short temper for

finding parking and other drivers

● Wants apps to be easy to use

● Would want a way to find parking close to

her workFedor Paretsky

● Drives to school every morning

● Is sometimes late to school because he can’t find a close

spot● Has his parking spot

stolen if he goes out for lunch

● Would want an easy way to find parking

at school

Flow of app and user feedback

Open App

Select start route

button when close to location

Select location

from favorites or new location

App finds an open parking

spot within the area

Listen to audible

directions

Park without

having to look for a

spot

Feasibility

● Software side of the app (UI, Maps, Navigation, Display..) will be feasible○ Learning Android, Python, SQL, Arduino..

● Hardware side of the app (Sensor) is more difficult, but progress has been made in building an effective prototype sensor○ Our main focus now is making a final version

of the sensor (compact, easy to install, reliable feedback to server)

Page 14: ParCare YAC Presentation 2016

Marketability

✖ Could pitch idea to companies around Seattle with parking lots

✖ Parking garages around the city could choose to implement sensors

✖ Could be implemented around schools (eg. Garfield High School)

✖ Eventually could be implemented on city streets with government approval

Final thoughts

With a working app, we will be able to help solve the problem of traffic congestion in the

growing city of Seattle by having drivers easily find parking instead of roaming around

the city randomly
