PAR is PAR IS EMV READY The United States credit card companies are in the process of shifting from the familiar magnetic stripe card technology to using an embedded chip card; this new standard for credit and debit cards is called EMV (Europay, MasterCard and VISA). EMV cards are more difficult to counterfeit, as a chip-based payment transaction occurs when a microprocessor embedded in a plastic card o r m obile p hone connects to an EMV-enabled POS terminal in order to execute payment. The smart card technology provides an additional point of card authentication for the transaction, validating the legitimacy of the payment type being used. Credit card companies hope to reduce fraud through the introduction of this technology into the United States. All U.S. issued EMV chip cards will contain both a contact chip and a magnetic stripe. However, effective October 1, 2015, the issuer or merchant who does not support EMV assumes liability for identity theft and fraudulent transactions. PAR, in conjunction with Brink and PixelPoint, will support this transition as EMV makes its domestic debut, and our hardware and software will be EMV adaptable. TERMINALS & TABLETS PAR has developed methods to ensure interoperability between chip based payment lines and our hardware products. Chip cards will be read through a separate credit card terminal rather than the integrated magnetic stripe reader available on the POS terminals. Since PAR resells credit card terminals from a number of major vendors, our terminals will be supported by devices from the payment companies (Ingenico, Verifone, etc.) through a Serial/USB or network connection Our PAR Tablet 8 includes a way to mount the payment company’s device to the back of it. The battery replacement door with the EMV mount screws right on to the back of the Tablet, and the cradle insert is unique to the type of EMV device being used. Other options are also being developed, and more information will be sent when available. Benefits of being EMV compliant: • Fraud reduction • Global interoperability • Will help foster the adoption and integration of other payment technologies • Reduced Audit costs ― 30% to 60% decrease in per year audit costs • Reduced PCI Compliance Management • Decrease corporate exposure • Regain Flexibility ― Update hardware and software on your own timelines EMV Ready.
