The DEC was directed to investigate the formation of a foundation with Department of Finance & Planning & report back to the NEC

Govt. of PNGApproves admission of PNG as a State Party to the Convention regarding Protection of the World Cultural & Natural Heritage, known as the WH Convention & of its protocols

Authorized the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade to accede to the Convention after all necessary constitutional requirements are fulfilled

Establish PNG National (World) Heritage Foundation

Ratification of World Heritage Convention

PNG became 148th

State Party of the World Heritage Convention in 1997 by depositing an instrument of ratification or acceptance

Formation of PNG National (World) Heritage Foundation (Committee)

The foundation was formed by way of two components:

1. The establishment of PNG National (World) Heritage Committee which comprised of 7 x key Central/National Agencies & 5 x NGO partners;

2. The creation of PNG National (World) Heritage Secretariat (2 x positions within DEC 2007/2010)

Early Agricultural site and Bobongara Sialum Terraces (Huon Peninsular) did not match criteria‘s � State Party / Focal Point played no significant part

therefore past nominations were declined � PNG National Work Heritage Strategy developed for

2006 to 2009� PNG National World Heritage Tentative Listing of 7 x

sites prepared and submitted� Properly improved Kuk Nomination Dossier & re-

submitted (2006)
