1.Music by body movement We can dance while hearing the music, how about playing music by dancing. Is it possible? Yes, researchers at McGill University have developed a series of wearable digital instruments that create sound based on the movement o f the body. Spending about three years they had created prosthetic musical instruments which look like spines and it can be worn on the body of dancer to create music. It is an extension of the human body with collection of LED pieces which includes crafted spinal attachments, head visors, and rip cages made through the use of 3D printing and laser cutting. It doesn't have any screws or nails, instead, everything slots together using interference fits. In more detail, each prosthetic instrument is embedded with a number of sensors and wireless data transmitters. Signals from each instrument are sent to an open-source peer-to-peer software system that transforms the gestures into sound. Did you all watch ‘Man of steel’? Are you a die hard fan of superman, too? We bet you are! Weall have, at one point, wanted the superpowers that he has.
Well, now we can.
Thanks to science and this technological era that is making everything possible! What we have is
a technology that could soon be embedded into your smart phone and voila, you can see behind
walls. Say hello to ‘Wi-Vi’ a proud invention of MIT professor Dina Katabi and student(graduate) Fadel Adib. This is a demonstration of the technology that makes use of Wi-Fi to let
The name is a combination of Wi-Fi and vision; get that? Wi and Vi combined! It has been proven that delicate reflections of wireless inter signals that bounce off a human can be used to
track the person’s movements. However, these methods were tiresome and required either a Wi-
Fi router in the same room as the person or as Professor Katabi puts it; ‘a whole truck just tocarry the radio’.
This new gadget makes use of the antenna that is found in a cell phone or laptop and hence itcould be, one day, added to a phone. The key idea is to cancel out certain reflections and retain
those that are bouncing off the human. These signals do bounce off other stuff too; walls, floorsand furniture and are 10,000-100,000 times stronger as to those which bounce off a human.
Katabi’s Wi-Vi sends out two signals, each inverse of one another and using ‘interference
nulling’ concept, they cancel each other out unless they hit a moving target! Pretty useful, seeingas how the other stuff is stationary as compared to walls, floors and furniture.
Professor said; ‘To silence the noise, we change the structure of the Wi-Fi signal so all theundesired reflections cancel‘. The gadget will be portable and can be used for the safety purpose
and could work as a baby monitor too. But the ultimate use might just be cops using it to catchthe crooks.
4. Black box in aeroplane?
In aeroplanes and aircrafts, there is device to record many parameters like Altitude, Air Pressure, Vertical Acceleration, other scientific details, with communication of crew, so that we can knowthe cause of accidents and faults happening in the aircraft, which is called Black Box or in real
called Flight Data Recorder.
A flight data recorder (FDR) is an electronic device to record any instructions sent to anyelectronic systems on an aircraft. It is a device used to record specific aircraft performanceparameters in combination with the cockpit voice recorder , which records conversation in the
cockpit, radio communications between the cockpit crew and air traffic controllers. The datarecorded by the FDR is used for accident investigation, as well as for analysing air safety issues, material degradation and engine performance.
Even though it is called Black Box, the exterior of the FDR is coated with heat-resistant bright
orange paint for high visibility in wreckage, and the unit is usually mounted in the aircraft's tailsection, where it is more likely to survive a severe crash.
FDRs are typically double wrapped, in strong corrosion-resistant stainless steel or titanium, withhigh-temperature insulation inside. FDRs can store upto 25 hours of flight data. FDRs are alsohelpful to keep track of aircraft landed inside the water as it emits Ultrasound waves which canbe detected by SONAR.
