Page 1 of 5 PAPER BAG MAKING AND QUILLING- A GREEN INITIATIVE REPORT “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead Taking this thought forward, students of of classes VI-X participated in the Green Drive initiated by the school’s Green Warriors Club on Saturday,18 August 2018. The objective of the drive was to indulge students in the habit of recycling by teaching them how to make paper bags and making them aware about the threat of plastic bags to the environment. The students were taught how to make paper bags from recycled paper by using tutorials made by the green warrior’s club’s students. The students were quite enthusiastic about the whole activity. When asked what they thought of this initiative, a student from class 9 replied-“This drive is quite useful as well as encouraging.” Another student said- “I wish that the message that was delivered to each and every student through this activity, will change the way they look at recycling.” Trying to give a new dimension to the creativity, as a part of SUPW activity, the students explored their art of Quelling to make the paper bags more attractive. All it takes is a needle, a thin paper strip, some patience and imagination. Wrap a strip around a needle tightly and then let it uncoil gently. Pinch one side into a sharp corner and you’ve shaped a teardrop, or a petal. Tweak the opposite end and you’ve got an eye, or a leaf. Put a few petals and a leaf together with glue and there’s your first quelled flower! Interesting! The students showcased their creativity in the form of vibrant flowers, butterflies, flower pots and many more designs. They truly enjoyed the art of quelling session. This initiative taken up by the school’s green warriors club is sure to hit the right spot in an individual’s mind and make him more conscious of this threat and teach him how it can be controlled. The green drive was a great success with positive remarks from both students and teachers.
